    This was helpful-thanks!

Solid review Brother! I currently have a Garmin 1030 and a Wahoo Roam. I made a video of "Likes Vs. Dislikes" of each. For my road bike I’m happy with the 1030 but for ny TT bike I find it slightly too large and prefer the Wahoo but… been thinking of the 830 for the TT bike because of it’s form factor 🤔 I’ll hav to think about it a lil more.

Thanks so much for the review. I’m quick to spend extra for upgrades, and I needed to hear that the touchscreen wasn’t necessarily a plus on the bike.

  5. Sgt Ted on June 19, 2022 at 9:49 pm

Maybe they should make a devise that you can swap from touch screen when off the bike. Then switch to buttons when riding. Can’t be to difficult to do. Anyway I am a fan of buttons myself. Touch screen is hassle when riding.

what the hell is going on with that piano in the background? it’s rather disturbing xD I can’t really focus on what you are saying

  7. Martin Lewis on June 19, 2022 at 9:51 pm

Thanks for the useful info. For once I think I’ll be saving money! The 530 would be more than adequate for my needs.

  8. Bianka Waye on June 19, 2022 at 9:52 pm

i bought my husband a edge 530 for his birthday.. he has had 3 tries at setting up but on all occurrences he has failed, bluetooth does not connect, heart rate belt does not connect(but does watch to phone), tried to delete a test ride could not work out how to actually delete, tried to change some of the fields but could not work it out change them, simply put very very disappointed… is the 830 any easy to setup?

  9. Marcin Iwańczyk on June 19, 2022 at 9:53 pm

Very helpful, thank you for this review

  10. R M on June 19, 2022 at 9:55 pm

Full gloves in Adelaide winter?? 830 for me then.

  11. whatsitwhosit on June 19, 2022 at 9:55 pm

Don’t need anything more than what my old 500 provided. Unfortunately I’m starting to have battery charge issues…100% at the beginning of the ride only to have it die less than 3 hours later. Didn’t think I’d be looking at spending potentially $300 for a new one either but…I have had and used that 500 for 10 years or so and I can’t complain about that.

Garmin 830 with Garmin edge remote control on my gravel – touch screen and buttons

  13. J T on June 19, 2022 at 9:58 pm

    Wahoo. Next.

  14. Patrick Marcoux on June 19, 2022 at 9:59 pm

Just the review I needed. I was hesitating between the 2 units, and the insights you provided sealed the deal for me. 530 it is. Thanks for the effort you put in. Great work.

  15. Lewis McAuley on June 19, 2022 at 10:00 pm

Can you link a galaxy watch to the 530? Planning on getting the 530 but would like to use my watch for the heart rate monitor

  16. KNO 11 on June 19, 2022 at 10:01 pm

What about connection with phone in 530? Can I set up data via iPhone?

  17. Johan Viljoen on June 19, 2022 at 10:01 pm

Could you please do a full review on the Garmin edge 530 and maybe another video on the entire Garmin edge 530 setup from start to finish?

  18. imlivingreen on June 19, 2022 at 10:02 pm

The 530 it is then. Thank you

  19. Stephan Van Lunenburg on June 19, 2022 at 10:03 pm

i had a garmin and i regret it a lot. the device worked fine but the accompanying app has continuous problems and that makes the device useless. if you buy an expensive product, you can expect that accompanying things such as apps also work well.
Garmin is then totally unhelpful and not open about the problems they have.
I’ll never buy anything from garmin again.

  20. Nick Winston on June 19, 2022 at 10:04 pm

Great review, found it really useful as was looking for a good unit for MTB. Quick question, what are wall mounts you have your bikes in behind you?

  21. Dhanes Soegondo on June 19, 2022 at 10:04 pm

Sigh I’m still in between these two. I can get a Garmin Edge 530 SENSOR BUNDLE for around AUD 590 and Garmin Edge 830 DEVICE ONLY for AUD 610. I don’t know if I’m gonna miss the touchscreen or not 🙁

  22. g1598 on June 19, 2022 at 10:06 pm

ill stick to my 510 unit

  23. Ride & Live on June 19, 2022 at 10:06 pm

Great review. Been debating whether I need a Garmin (or similar) for years. LOL. Still prefer having my smartphone rocking RWGPS. Nothing can beat the use and the speed a smartphone has. All these dedicated cycling units have a very meh interface and are way behind even the cheapest smartphone. If I need more juice, I just strap a cheap small 5k ma powerbank to my handlebars which will keep me going for another 3 hours. Will keep thinking for now I guess. May be Garming 840 or Karoo 3 or smth else will finally make me try it.

  24. Øystein Mathisen on June 19, 2022 at 10:13 pm

Great review. This was all I needed to choose between the two. I can endure a bit of tricky setup as long as it performs once I use it, and I have always been a bit skeptical to touch screen on a device I will use on my mountain bike, both summer and winter. So, 530 – here we go!

  25. Jeffrey Barker on June 19, 2022 at 10:15 pm

This video makes me think having an 830 or 1030 is more of a status symbol than anything. 530 it is! Thank you so much for the in-depth and (most importantly) honest review–especially of its downfalls.

  26. Flo Dahm on June 19, 2022 at 10:15 pm

Hammerhead should send you one of their Karoo2 – would be a great one to compare to the 530/830

  27. Shaun Petersen on June 19, 2022 at 10:16 pm

    530 it is for me

  28. Anthony Merryman on June 19, 2022 at 10:16 pm

Thanks boss, was looking for a quality Garmin gps option and your reviews are perfect! Keep it up!

  29. Jamie Smith on June 19, 2022 at 10:18 pm

530 is fine. Save your money.

  30. MsShamma96 on June 19, 2022 at 10:20 pm

You would think after all these reviews they would have taken heed to changing/ updating the device to be more user friendly for simple set up for the basic rider, especially. I just purchased the 530 yesterday and I’m ready to return it, not even taken it out of the box yet, just watching reviews. I’m feeling quite overwhelmed with everyone saying not user friendly hard to set up, like in these modern times why? That would be a top feature for any device. I have 90 days to try it out to get a full refund, so I’m going to mount it and play with it and see what I think. Thanks for this review

  31. sahid djatmika on June 19, 2022 at 10:21 pm

Thanks for the review, it helps me to choose the best value for me

is it necessary to use a power meter to see VO2 MAX?

  33. Alexis on June 19, 2022 at 10:23 pm

    Great review buddy!

  34. mkellogg100 on June 19, 2022 at 10:24 pm

Great review, I hadn’t considered a few points you raised so this was helpful. The ending was a bit ominous, you were about a month into lockdowns in April 2020, looking forward to "riding with all our friends again" now here we are September 2021 and things in Australia in particular couldn’t realistically be worse, lockdown-wise. Stay safe!

  35. Friendly Neighbourhood MTB on June 19, 2022 at 10:25 pm

so i can ride out with the garmin 530 and leave my phone at home,
    and when i get back,
i can connect all the ride data from the garmin on my strava account (segments, times for medals etc?)

or did i missunderstood that? :3

  36. cantyodannis on June 19, 2022 at 10:25 pm

Nice review! Although we can’t type an address, can we pinpoint the spot we like to go on 530?

  37. Ride Adelaide on June 19, 2022 at 10:26 pm

"CLIMPRO" will forever stand as a monument to my sucky proofreading!

Do you have winter in Australia? 🤔That you need gloves? 😇

Brilliant abd exhaustive comparative analysis, thanks for sharing!

  41. Mr Dog on June 19, 2022 at 10:35 pm

Awesome comparison. Elaborated on a lot of questions I had regarding the two units. Thanks man 🙌

  42. Abdul Wahab on June 19, 2022 at 10:35 pm

Thank you sir for solving the confusion. Shall we buy it the pack with hrm and cadence or without

  43. Juke on June 19, 2022 at 10:36 pm

Could you do a 2 year review of these devices or the one you are using? Has they got any new updates, phone menu, improvements etc.?

  44. CrakBeats on June 19, 2022 at 10:36 pm

I have the 530 and it has been working well with everything except Strava segments. I have the segments starred, Strava and Garmin Connect are synced for courses and activities, the segments show up as enabled under live segments on my 530, but I do not get the live segment screen to pop up when I am riding and approach the segment… PLEASE can you help explain how to get it to work

  45. Scott W on June 19, 2022 at 10:37 pm

Thanks for the review. I’m so glad you addressed the issue I was concerned about…operating the touch screen verses the button driven device while riding. I always ride in gloves, so it looks like the 530 for me.

  46. Sérgio Couto on June 19, 2022 at 10:37 pm

What demons are this thing on your horns ?

  47. Willie Hurx on June 19, 2022 at 10:38 pm

Great review which made me go for the 530 because I also dislike touch screen on a bike. But what I don"t understand is that you like the Garmin connect app. It’s not that good. With 2 devices connected you have 2 different training statuses. My Forerunner telling me that I’m productive and my edge 530 is telling me that I’m on recovery. Not very usefull in my opinion.

  48. ryant75 on June 19, 2022 at 10:38 pm

Hello great review and thank you. I have two questions..
How do I loose the large green virtual partner field on the bottom of map screen. It’s terrible. Compared to the 520, the screen is so dark and hard to follow when in map navigation. What do you recommend? The 520 was zero brightness. The 530 everything has to be 100% 🤨

  49. F R on June 19, 2022 at 10:42 pm

    Great reviews. Nice job

  50. Nex_Randomness on June 19, 2022 at 10:42 pm

I’m rather interested in this unit. But I want to know what watches can be used as hear rate sensors for these head units. I’m not really a fan of the chest strap set up. I hope someone can help me. Thank you.
