Lacrimosa of Dana and Neir Automata <33

If you’re including a Cybersleuth game, why not the original? Hacker’s Memory relies heavily in the events of the first game and has a relatively boring first half.

I seriously think Ni no Kuni 2 doesn’t deserve the spot. The story was super short, predictable, characters were mediocre, sidequests were terrible and the kingdom builder felt like a Facebook game. And they’re the same devs that made the Dark Cloud games, which had great town building mechanics.

The game also gave me the same anxiety that I feel when I try to commit to a Gacha game. Considering it uses many of the same trappings as those to keep the player engaged, it’s no wonder the reaction was similar.

Hmmm…i know it’s people’s opinions and all but…Crystar and Digimon getting in over Trails of Cold Steel 3….Really? Maybe if you’re waiting for Cold Steel 4 and don’t want to have 2 of the same series in the list it’d make sense but even then you can just make an updated video.

Well my own list would probably be partially the same with the only differences being Nier Automata, Atelier Ryza, Crystar, and Digimon taken out and replaced with Trails of Cold Steel 3, Tokyo Xanadu, Valkyria Chronicles 4, and Code Vein…and i would say Ni no Kuni 2 just barely makes it in as the 10th over Akiba’s Beat…granted this is for me anyway.

So my opinion on what the top 10 jrpgs i’d recommend over all others would be would be (from the ones i like the most to least): Tales of Berseria, Trails of Cold Steel 3, Tokyo Xanadu, Ys 8, Valkyria Chronicles 4, Dragon Quest 11, Persona 5 (i haven’t played Royal but you could easily consider them mostly the same game just Royal being slightly more preferred due to extra content), Code Vein, FF7 Remake, and Ni no Kuni 2. With that said Tales of Arise, Trails of Cold Steel 4, and Ys 9 could replace previous games in their respective series in their list after i’ve played them after they release later this/next year….or just kinda represent their franchise as a whole (FF7R’s later games may also be ones i’d recommend over part 1 but i’m having my doubts they’ll be available on PS4 by the time they release given PS5’s releasing by the end of this year)..

No Cold Steel games being on the list is almost a crime 😭

  5. Creature on April 16, 2022 at 6:14 pm

Actually Tales of Berseria is 4 player.
    (Local co-op aka couch co-op)

  6. Nora Kukk on April 16, 2022 at 6:16 pm

    are they free?

  7. Crim Rui on April 16, 2022 at 6:18 pm

Would give you a thumbs up, but without Trails of Old Steel, it’s not a complete list.

With regards to hacker’s memory, I played the one before it and the story is better, though not to sure about hackers cause it takes place at the same time as og. Feels like a dlc to me, I prefer og over hacker’s memory

Nier Automata is not an RPG, much less a JRPG. People, do your homework!

  10. RPG Guru on April 16, 2022 at 6:22 pm

    13 sentinels its awesome!!

  12. Kilyén Balázs on April 16, 2022 at 6:31 pm

Yeah I started out with Dq11…you would think there is no stop after that, but then I played persona 5 and realized…its worse than a drug. Once you start to play jrpg-s you are addicted for life. Trails of cold steel are really good as well, but each episode ending enrages me…hope they make a decent ending for it at least when the 4 comes out. Almost finished Dana its a good game as well. Going to buy Crystar now. But i guess ill start with Valkyria first. To bad there is no Xenoblade for ps

ToCS is really good. Also I prefer the first cyber sleuth over the 2nd.

When i look for japanese games i only see hentai im not joking some of this shit passes as games

  15. DaRkLoRd1061 on April 16, 2022 at 6:40 pm

Dragon quest 11 and nier automata are without a doubt both 10/10s.

P5 is too but I enjoyed the other 2 slightly more. It is amazing I the combat is fast and fluid and all around fantastic but its too easy. I’ve played too many persona and smt games. Which is why I’m really looking forward to the nocturne hd remaster next year.

  16. ZaGoS on April 16, 2022 at 6:44 pm

Where Trials of mana, Kingdom hearts,Code vein or The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel series?

  17. Mohammad Ali on April 16, 2022 at 6:48 pm

So this is where Lucy’s outfit was from
I was thinking it was these games

  18. disgea69 on April 16, 2022 at 6:48 pm

I hate persona 5 royal and strikers what a boring Jrpg

  19. janusan89 on April 16, 2022 at 6:54 pm

Lol it’s weird when I think that I played almost all of these…still, as much as I really liked Crystar I would’ve put anything else instead, like Trails of cold Steel or even Shining Resonance. Can’t speak for Hacker’s Memory or ff7R cause I don’t have them.

Also I still wonder if I should play dragon quest 11 because of its basically beta state in comparison to switch…still hoping for those sweet QoL changes to come on ps4 too. It seriously pisses me off how the switch version is an overpriced patched version in comparison to the ps4.

I played Ys VIII, it was awesome. That is definitely a must play.

  21. Garysmithfan 14 on April 16, 2022 at 6:54 pm

Shining resonance refrain is also a good one

  22. Kadis Shinsaku on April 16, 2022 at 6:56 pm

    Trails of cold steel though

  23. KuvJason on April 16, 2022 at 7:00 pm

I refuse to play Atelier Ryza. The Atelier series was essentially non existent until the marketing team showed up with Ryza’s boobies and thighs.

The community and its newcomers can’t even explain why this game is different and better than previous entries without referencing Ryza’s tHiCCc boobies and thighs.

I like that this is just a list of 10 essentials and not a straight-up top 10. I’m going to show this to my friends if they ask about JRPG’s. It’s a pretty solid list

  25. Degapal Gamer on April 16, 2022 at 7:02 pm

Pretty good vid idk why it hasnt got more views…but I would recommend talking within each recommendation to give it that added flare yknow.
