A lot of professional artists don’t use the latest greatest most expensive drawing tech out there. Why? well there are some really good reasons and I go over them in this video.

up until 2019, I was still using my bamboo pen from 2009
hell yeah that thing lasted a bloody long time!!
my gf had to throw out her intuos 3 yesterday because of the cable breaking. 16 years or so later
I found a really good way to eliminate that problem ether lower you chair more so the screen is at less of an angle so you don’t slouch
Or you can do this if you have brain damage https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BqtCVf62fyg
Watching my second video in a row! Also, a new sub! Trying to learn digital art!
Thank you breaking out the Intuos 4 I have a new one never used and I am going to set it up now
hey a tip, if u want a drawing tablet but have a display one you can jus turn the brightness down and you have a tablet it works fine for me
i appreciate this video. i’m a beginner graphic designer & im trying to choose between the 2. but have realized that a drawing tablet may be better for me whenever i’m on the go so i can still work & practice !
My apologies the Intuos 4 was another video yours is also excellent learned alot
I never left my Intuos since 2005, less screen is best. I wish they could take off the controlers, so useless.
Wow I’m still using my galaxy note 10.1 from 2014 By the way, I’m not an artist haha
Great video! And I know it’s 2 years later now and you might have some new information, but I would like to point out that I’m still using my Cintiq 21UX from 2012 🤣! And for people who work with Toonboom Harmony, there is usually pressure sensitivity issues with brands other than Wacom, depending on the model there might be a way around though, so look into it if you plan on using Harmony. 🙂
Okay, I started with a simple pen tablet and stayed with it for 8 years. It was good and using my big monitor was good too, specially for my back and neck.
However my dream came true and I got an 12" display tablet (they had finally became affordable). At first I had some back pain but after getting a good stand, being conscious of my position and everything, now I wouldn’t be able to come back to my pen tablet. I don’t care if the display tablet is smaller than my monitor. I can draw, sketch and feel like I’m drawing on paper. It’s super good and the colours, even though it’s not the best model regarding that, are amazing and easy to calibrate with my main monitor and my iphone (which I use for reference) through my graphic card’s interface.
The display tablets are great. But anyways not using a display tablet isn’t the great deal. Your art will be the same. A display tablet won’t magically improve your art, it will only make sketching easier. In fact, at first I didn’t like coloring in it because my hand would cover what I was doing,
40 years crap I can barely work for 1
Serj Tankian, wow another profession
It’s like you said : My intuos 4 still works like the day I got it.
I agree before seeing the video. You don’t even need a big one. A small or middle wacom is perfect.
hey mr. Griffin!!
5:17 a pencil and a paper would make you a better illustrator cuz then u would not be one
Great video and a great help
First timer on the Channel.
Definitely Resonated with the Humour. The way valuable tech information is presented in an interesting way is high preferable over usually 20 min muffled blabber without any interesting change of voice tonality and important key factors that influence the audiences perspective
the captivating visual effects compliment the topic at hand pretty well and just makes it easier to take information in as a viewer.

i have a really high table and the drawing tablets in my country are really cheap and good lol
awesome
What about Gaomon S620
https://youtu.be/yPl0M52aoPo
I still draw with a mouse 20 years later
I just want to draw figures for my paper 😭 oh well, back to Adobe🙄
i prefer wacom tablets because….
MY SOUL BELONGS TO THEM
BTW, i begun to work a the age of 16 and i am 61 years old, and i don’t plan to stop.
love my iPad, but I have the ecosystem and use it for so much more lol
my main reason besides my apple ecosystem is reliability/portability
Let me preface everything I’m about to say with this: I have ADHD. I started with pen and paper. I practiced and got extremely good with pen and paper. At 14 I got my first laptop, and of course I begged my mom for a Wacom tablet. And I regret it. I received an Intuos Draw. I hate the thing. I tried for years to force myself to use it. But the feel and even the sound of the pen on the tablet surface felt wrong. And my drawing ability suffered. I gave up on drawing for a long time because of it. In 2019 I invested in a 12.9 iPad Pro with pencil, and ho boy it made a world of difference. The ability to see exactly what I’m drawing as I’m putting it to page mattered more than I thought.
My point is while all these points are valid, it also matters just as much to take ability’s and preferences into account when purchasing something. If you don’t think you can handle a screen less tablet for drawing, then save the extra money to get something your confident will compliment your skills and abilities. In my case, I have extremely poor hand eye coordination, and my ADHD wigs me out really badly if I’m having to look back and forth between tablet and screen.
i know it’s a 2 year old video but f it
1. the fact is that when you draw on a sketchbook, piece of paper or anything else you are also looking down with (most of the time a bad posture) :’) so i have mixed feelings about this argument ^^.
2. Yes it’s still to this day the best option when you are on a budget, i’m using the HS610 from huion and i think i bought it for 60€ or smth, a wacom intuos pro medium is about 340€ (at the time i’m writing this) the cool thing about graphic tablet nowadays is that they actually get cheaper and cheaper, a kamvas pro 13 from huion is about 270€ brand new which is still lower than a wacom intuos pro medium.
3. totally agree on the fact that even tho they get smaller you still need to carry around some cables, heck even with the all in one cables from huion it’s still not portable enough. but tbh if i want to go out and draw i’ll just use a sketchbook.
4. i kinda have mixed feeling about this but i guess you are not wrong on the tech aspect, i’m still using my GT191, only as a monitor but still it work perfectly fine as a graphic tablet if i want to, just annoying to move around (the main reason i got a kamvas pro 13 actually) we’ll see if i still use the kamvas pro 13 in 10 years i guess :’) .
5. Totally agree on that, for me the only reason i got the kamvas pro 13 was because i was tired of using a "normal" tablet and since i love the feeling of drawing on a sketchbook but cannot get that with a normal tablet i bought a display tablet 😀 comfort is the main reason most people spend their money on theses i guess
nowadays there’s amazing option and i love the fact that wacom got some competition because before huion, xp-pen and so on you HAD to buy their product, which is in my opinion overpriced, but yeah at the end of the day maybe the build quality, materials and stuff like that are better so the price go higher i don’t know and don’t really care, i love huion and their products so i’ll stay with them for a few more years i guess
to end this comment i just wanted to say that the main thing about art in general is that you should have fun and enjoy the heck of what you are doing, otherwise what’s the point right ?
have a great day and if you read this far, thank you 😀
You make some good points. I am now leaning towards your position
The whole "tools don’t make you a better artist" saying works all across the board for any skill, in any industry. Experience is the only way!
"Total box of failure" is exactly what my dad called me before he "went to the store" and never came back.
who else doesnt wanna spend moneyy
Bro and his imaginary subscribers
Can I use drawing tablet for cad ??
I have to drive trucks for a living so I bought the galaxy tab s6
This feels like someone’s parents trying to make their kid think that the smaller the Nerf is, the easier it is for him to move and win his battles with his friends
People who want to fix their posture but have a display tablet, just use same monitor setting instead of using two monitors for extension. What I mean is that when you use two monitors, you can either have one main monitor for work, or just what you need to focus on, while the other is simply for other tasks, like discord, Spotify and so on. But when you use the same monitor settings both monitors show the same thing, and so you can practice fixing your posture.
I still can’t really wrap my brain around the hand eye coordination required to perfectly replicate what I can do on a pencil and paper, compared to a screen to tablet.
For that reason, I still think a tablet with a screen would just be easier for me.
eres un cachondo, jeje. Has ganado un nuevo subscriptor
after almost two years drawing on a tablet it still feels very weird and i can draw so much better on paper, it’s infuriating
The advantage of a display tablet is that you can draw directly, but you can also use it as a normal graphics tablet, or not?
I just bought a Wacom One simple drawing tablet and I’m super excited to start playing around with it!
I feel anxiety drawing with a smart tablet cuz my hand shaking a lot 💀 also they are expensive asf
Little late to the party but I’m not convinced. I have a Intous drawing pad (older model) and it still works like a charm but I never got the skills to actually make art with it. I used it a lot for online teaching during Corona and it was a real live saver in this situation. But for more sophisticated stuff, let alone art, I don’t think I’ll ever get the hand-eye-coordination I need. I’m decent at drawing on paper, so it’s not a general inability but I don’t plan to become a professional artist which also means my day job doesn’t allow for the time necessary to practice on my Intous to actually get good enough to be at the same skill level in pen control I have with traditional media. So I decided to buy a XP-pen artist 13.3 pro and I’m confident it will get me much farther in my teaching and my non-professional art.
having a screen tablet can either make you:
a.) lower your self esteem cuz ur art still did not improve.
or
b.) become an art god. simple as that 🙂
for beginners just please get a no screen
eventually you will want to upgrade but use a no screen they are so cheap and work fine most of the time
tho is does depend on what you are using the tablet for
Use a track ball mouse
