It’s uncool to buy made in China. Help your Australian mates. If you buy use Gigabyte and Asus made in Taiwan. Samsung and LG made in S. Korea and Toshiba made in Japan. The CCP has put trade restrictions on Australian Beef, Barley and Coal. Don’t buy Apple, MSI, Lenovo, HP, Razen, Microsoft or other made in China models.
So these laptops cater to rich kids all the way down to bargain bin hunters. Me, I just got the Swift 3 (SF314-41) with the Ryzen 3500U, 4GB RAM, 256GB SSD, 1TB HDD and 14" IPS LCD. With everyone going with online distance learning these days I bet Acer will sell shiploads and shiploads of these Swift 3 laptops. They look very nice and for the money, screw the MacBook.

A lot of people are complaining about the "budget", but he didn’t say cheap. A budget is just a set monetary number that you set for yourself. Also as a college student who has used cheap laptops that last me barely over a year, don’t skimp on a laptop. Yes it’s really expensive, yes it’s really hard to afford one while being a student, but realistically you’re not gonna find many durable laptops that can do the work school requires under 800 dollars. And at 800 dollars you’re probably gonna get a used laptop, or one with less than 16 gigs of ram, or one with less than an i7. Which will be able to suffice, but if you’re lining for a really good laptop with a price point of like 300-500, chances are you’re not gonna get a decent durable powerful laptop at that price. Either you lower your expectations or save money and buy a good laptop, especially for those of you who have majors where you really NEED a good laptop (programmers, coders, graphic designers etc.). Again not saying it’s easy but there are budget laptops for like 800 dollars (I know, still expensive) if you’re willing to compromise and get a lower processor, less space or second hand.

Why not just buy a used XPS 15? You can get the base config i5 9570 for like US$500 and then splurge a bit on RAM and storage if you need it.
