Best Buy needs to start making their messaging more clear and transparent regarding.

  3. Kenn Tollens on March 21, 2022 at 6:19 pm

I bought a laptop, got home and there was a pixel out in the center of the screen. Took it back the same day and they refused to exchange or refund me because I didn’t buy a 3 year warranty plan. Nothing else in the store requires a warranty be purchased to take it back if it is broken after you open it up at home.

  4. rswingman on March 21, 2022 at 6:19 pm

Everybody has an online "Marketplace" (Walmart, Best Buy, Amazon…). You should know enough to look and make sure it’s shipped by the name-company and not a 3rd party. Or you should know you’re taking your chances when you go off-brand.

he might be able to make your computer work, but lookin at his stock your not gonna get any new parts

  6. Otonomi on March 21, 2022 at 6:21 pm

This report is so misguided and confused about Best Buy, even after the investigating you guys still couldn’t recognize that this is a “don’t buy refurbished electronics online” problem and not a Best Buy problem? Just like the employee said in big bold letters? Best Buy is just providing a space on their site for vendors to sell…just like eBay and Facebook Marketplace and many others. Plus this is just common sense with electronics, but they’re old.

I hate when they refer to a married man or woman as a partner instead of having a husband or a wife. I have a wife and a partner who I run a business with

  8. James on March 21, 2022 at 6:24 pm

16:00 Best Buy is providing a platform for smaller businesses the opportunity to get their products seen. Best Buy is not to blame for bad sellers.

  9. Sirikwan Burnett on March 21, 2022 at 6:24 pm

I start making their messaging more clear and transparent regarding the condition of marketplace items.

I think it would be great to first define "refurbished" before saying if something is or is not of "refurbished" quality.

In 2006-2007. I worked at Solectron Glaobal in America. It was a factory job. We reburished T Mobile, BlackBerry, Cingular, AT&T cellular phone. Every phone was tested using a specific software. Depending on the diagnostic test determined what repairs were made to each phone. Also, we performed visual inspections for scratches and water damages. Water damaged phones was deemed as irreparable. Parts were replaced according to our findings, such as scratched screens or keypads.

Can you judge your self? No. It takes someone else to get there impression of you. In a business transaction can I sell u a refurbished phone having no experience? No. Tech should set the price while reaching a deal with sales lead. It’s a bargaining thing. Corp you know this. And further more if the tech is licensed ie. College education/Technical training, and any education pertaining to sale or service of device are liable. Insurance don’t you know your cut in this, as long as good products sale from reliable, dependable, and trust worthy clients. Better you get paid for service in and out of court. Less we all hurry up and wait in court.
    Nuf said nuf done.

    Respect your self!

I bought a Nintendo in Walmart market place. Paid 426 plus tax for some thing on the next day I bought for 300 in the store. This was Nov 2020. It’s still with me. They did not take it back although I had a return paper printed out. They could never reach the seller eighter and are not interested in helping. It’s a night mare. Don’t buy on market place if you don’t know the product and pricing very well.

  17. Med Golly on March 21, 2022 at 6:30 pm

Why should Bestbuy improve there little if any competition in Canada !

  21. James on March 21, 2022 at 6:37 pm

This is like blaming eBay or Amazon or AliExpress or Facebook for bad quality products. Best Buy Marketplace is just a platform for small businesses to be seen.

  22. DjJokerr on March 21, 2022 at 6:37 pm

The moral of the story is never buy refurbished electronics.

  23. James on March 21, 2022 at 6:38 pm

Some device models (iPhone 6 and iPhone 7 serie) have design flaws that may not be evident even during rigorous testing. Look up Touch IC Disease and Audio IC Disease.

    Up next buying digital movies.

Did your movie disappear lately? Or was there a data breache?

  25. omi god on March 21, 2022 at 6:38 pm

"Refurbished" is supposed to mean refurbished – that is, made like new. If it has obvious cosmetic issues, it is not a "refurb".

  26. Chuck Riney on March 21, 2022 at 6:41 pm

The company that advertises products on Marketplace should be held responsible by federal law. Here Best Buy should be liable for all 3rd party sellers using their, Best Buy’s web sites to sell junk

  27. Steven Chaffee on March 21, 2022 at 6:42 pm

If yeah want to buy something in perfect condition then don’t buy someone else’s problem or outdated junk. trying to save a buck

  28. george gouvas on March 21, 2022 at 6:43 pm

your hidden cameras suck, there filming blurry

  29. george gouvas on March 21, 2022 at 6:44 pm

    your buying a used phone,damn.

  30. DorffMeister on March 21, 2022 at 6:44 pm

Never expect the item to last longer than the warranty provided. If the seller gives you a 90 day warranty but new product has a 2 year warranty, pretend you are removing 1y 9m of product life for your cost savings. Is that gamble still worth it? Sometimes the gamble IS worth it (I will buy refurb items, but generally not computers or tablets).

  31. 1mezion on March 21, 2022 at 6:47 pm

As soon as best buy made that statement they forgot about it

  32. DorffMeister on March 21, 2022 at 6:50 pm

Buyer Beware for Amazon and BestBuy Marketplaces… they are effectively glorified ebay. You can do well on all three sites, but know what you are getting into. It is NOT the same as buying new.

  33. Jas on March 21, 2022 at 6:50 pm

I work at Walmart in electronics position and I am always host with customers. Example when someone is thinking of buying a RCA TV I always tell them don’t. RCA quality is bad. I also never make the customer buy the most expensive version of the item.

    I’ll bet thats not an N-95 mask……

  35. gursimran tathgiar on March 21, 2022 at 6:51 pm

This not all of buying refurbished items only from best buy. Best buy is actually ripping off in their own product which is geek squad.
I bought a MacBook from them with geek squad protection
They told this protection is going to cover any kind of damages but when it actually happened they said they wont cover it. They started explaining that they only cover some certain amount of damages only. So disappointing

  36. the Rabbit Whisper on March 21, 2022 at 6:52 pm

two words…amazon and ebay… i never have 3rd party problems. Amazon or Ebay always take care of me.

  37. Donzell C. Jones on March 21, 2022 at 6:52 pm

Well ish shoring up. Where we gone hide? Hope not behind a tree or insurance.

    Food for thought.

  38. Mr_Wizard on March 21, 2022 at 6:54 pm

Just started watching you on YouTube, love your investigations,
I’m down here in the states, but the same issues can happen,
    question’s
    Who operates Best Buy marketplace,
I’m betting none of the devices ever came from Best Buy, corporate licensed the name and logo to the site operator , that entity is responsible for allowing sellers to post goods, personally I prefer eBay for used and in store locally or Amazon for new,
I did buy a New Lenovo table online from Best Buy 2 yrs ago, and been very happy with it, but that was new full warranty etc.. Not marketplace,
open box in the store is OK, you seen what your getting before paying at the register

  39. Shaun Diz on March 21, 2022 at 6:55 pm

Of course if you go into a best buy store they’re going to tell you to not buy from third party sellers. All the associates are low level ppl that barely know what’s going on and of course they’re going to tell you to come buy new stuff from the real best buy, cuz new is obviously better than refurbished

  40. julie araiza on March 21, 2022 at 6:56 pm

Can you do the same thing with Amazon?

  41. Thomas Luggiero on March 21, 2022 at 6:57 pm

Lot’s of businesses use third party sellers now. Amazon, Walmart, BestBuy. This isn’t anything new. This news segment is pointless

  42. deeray318 on March 21, 2022 at 6:58 pm

    I NEVER buy anything refurbished

  43. Rita Yohannes on March 21, 2022 at 6:59 pm

I bought two laptops one the keys don’t work. I returned it and they charged me fee

  44. James on March 21, 2022 at 7:05 pm

17:35 Wait! your guy opened the device to check it’s internals (eventually needs to close it up) brings it to you to point out how badly it was closed up? AND BLAMES THE SELLER?

  47. julie araiza on March 21, 2022 at 7:09 pm

I do know that Amazon has a longer warranty period for their refurbished electronics but it must come from Amazon and there are 3rd party sellers so just look at the item description carefully.

  48. C Liverpoolboy01 on March 21, 2022 at 7:10 pm

They failed miserably in the U.K.!

  49. James on March 21, 2022 at 7:13 pm

"Bad quality replacement parts" is the wrong phrase to use. A more apt phrase would be OEM parts which cannot be bought new by refurbishers. The only "new" parts [new = parts never used/installed in a completed device] that can be purchased are copy parts. Supplying parts for repairs, logistics for fullfilment on those parts and returning malfunctioning parts rather than just building a new phone with those parts would be a nightmare. how many extra parts versus complete devices do they make? for how long should they stock those parts? How can you tell if the part was built bad or did the installer mess it up during install? subpar parts are the only option. blaming the guy that installs a subpar part is not the way to get better refurbished devices. Device manufacturers need to allow 3rd party vendors to buy original equipment and provide plans for building effectively OEM quality parts.

  50. Koyote Kola on March 21, 2022 at 7:13 pm

Lesson learned: buy only new from a reputable source. If used, you don’t know what you’re getting. If you’re disabled, you shouldn’t be walking around with a bum leg trying to get the best phone for the cheapest price. Save yourself a lot of trouble and desperation. Buy new.
