Microsoft has moved into a new generation of gaming with the Xbox Series X/S, and there’s no doubt in anyone’s mind that the new consoles have got off to an excellent start.
By any metric – first party releases, third party releases, Xbox Game Pass, you name it – 2021 has been a great year for Xbox, and over the last 12 months, we’ve played plenty of standout games on the platform. Here, we’re going to highlight what we feel were some of the best of the lot, and then pick one of them as our ultimate winner.

I’m so glad I made the move from Sony to Xbox for this gen. Gamepass is insane value, Forza is awesome and Halo is the best it’s been in years. But it’s what’s to come that has me excited most. Hellblade in particular as Microsoft buying Ninja Theory is one of the biggest reasons I came back to the platform and from what I’ve seen of it so far I think it’s going to be something very special.
Literally almost every list like this you’ve made over the last week has been the same. You’re literally just wasting peoples time at this point.
Starting with outriders…wow! I know it’s matter of opinion, but this game is so run of the mill and by the numbers bad and cliché.
Gamepass has been great and Halo infinite, Psychonauts, 12 minutes and Artful Escape were really good. Halo the campaign was best for me.
why has guardians of the galaxy been constantly snubbed this year. the game was one of the best character and story driven action titles since the uncharted series.
Outriders is very suspect!! After 2 months, that game went to hell! 🤢🤮 2 months of my life, I will never get back!!
All decent games ( well… Some of them ).
But the lack of EXCLUSIVE games is laughable at this point.

Outriders weapon swapping is gross and feels clunky.
Highly recommend The Gunk that’s just been released on game pass, great fun game to play, wish it lasted longer though.

I have no interest in cars, never have… but Forza Horizon 5 has me absolutely hooked. It’s overwhelming, but in a good way.
They scraped the barrel to conjure 10 games, somebody had to say it. About to watch the ps5 version
You lost all credibility with Outriders.
Forza horizon 5 has a few flaws in my book. There are a couple of tech issues and too much of a focus on none game play customization. I don’t give a damn about the driver’s shoes. Give me more raceing content. Ignore dumb shit like horns. Forza motorsports is still better in my mind.
It’s tough to purchase games after checking out game pass to be honest. It’s a revolution in the world of gaming.
