I LOVE THIS!! I love the behavior approach and considering shifting behaviors rather than weight, which can be complicated by factors such as autoimmune disease.

So glad I found this video, I was considering getting sucked back into WW with their new plan tomorrow. I have been learning over the past few months to listen to my body, it’s hunger cues, eat what I want and stop when I was full. No restrictions, no counting, just trying to eat more whole foods and less processed. It is so hard to stop the diet chatter in my mind. I know what to do, I just need to do it and I don’t need to pay WW to tell me that. I love your videos, they are a wonderful and entertaining way to help myself. Thank-you!

So grateful for this information, I thought I was being balanced, but really found a few more ways to approach this journey more mindfully. Thanks soooo much!

thank you so much for suggesting people with eating disorders and disordered eating get the help from a professional before just attempting to try to lose weight by following a general youtube video (or book, or podcast, etc). I for one had to first address my food addiction and what was driving me to food in the first place before I was ever able to approach the conversation of sustainable weight loss or even just feeling comfortable in the body I was in.

I’m so envious of all these people who can still eat sugary fatty food junk food. Yes I am because If I eat them I feel sick for days 😞 starting with breakouts , rashes, yeast infection this infection that infection and sometimes even more severe symptoms . It’s like I’m doomed and I can only eat wholesome foods or else It’s a trip down to the doc. Recently found out I’m allergic to gluten and milk too ! Dairy ! Freaking dairy … so my point is … eat your damn food (in moderation) and enjoy while you still can. Because it’s only a matter of time till your body is gonna decide it for you . I’m happy I can still eat good wholesome food but I’ll be so much happier if it isn’t because of my allergies.

☝️☝️☝️ GOOD INFORMATION. in my case I managed to lose 20 pounds thanks to a natural method that I followed and now I look thinner.💞💓💗

Of course you should give up white bread! Terrible for you. Your telling me your encouraging people to eat gluten?

  13. Kathryn Green on January 9, 2022 at 5:36 pm

Its a bit off a toss up for me. If I eat without ‘distractions’ like watching tv or reading then I find I actually eat too quickly. If I am watching or reading something it will distract me, but that helps me slow down my eating.

  14. Anna-Kate Howell on January 9, 2022 at 5:36 pm

Another problem with overemphasizing exercise is that it makes weight loss seem inaccessible to people who are very heavy and movement-restricted because of their size or complications from their size. Someone my size physically cannot run, jump, or do most things you would see people doing in a gym. But someone my size CAN make dietary changes and eat in a more healthful and nourishing way, which will result in weight loss, which will result in increased and more comfortable mobility. But if we say "you have to do xyz exercise to lose weight!" you are telling very heavy people that weight loss is not possible for us, which is just not true.

  16. Marla Anderson on January 9, 2022 at 5:39 pm

Thank you!!!!! Thank you!!!! Thank you!! It has taken me 35 years to change my thought process and relationship with food. It was one belief by another belief. Our society is pretty dead set on what is “healthy.” When I share my views I often get eye rolls, etc. Thank you for putting this out. My life is peaceful and joyful living in such a manner as this.

  17. arielkmusic on January 9, 2022 at 5:42 pm

I really enjoy eating slowly, and I think part of that for me is that I used to choke if I ate to fast when I was younger. But as you mentioned slowing down while eating it occurred to me that we are constantly rushed with our eating! It is really something most Americans at least, have to retrain themselves on. I remember in middle school, if you needed a hot lunch, you’d be in line for probably 15 to 20 minutes, leaving maybe 10 minutes to eat, and if you wanted to do something else at recess, that would rush you even more! Just one example, it’s all over the place!

My mom has been using Pruvit supplements and trying to do the high protein low/no carbs for desperately needed weight loss. Whanever she "binges" on fruits, that she loves, she gains weight. I’m sending her this video I’m going to talk about it with her so maybe she can work in the "hunger crushing combo" so she can enjoy all those fruits without gaining the weight. I love your videos Abbey!

Hello! I used to really LOVE eggs, but I can’t eat it now because THE virus destroyed my taste for several foods, and came back tasting metallic instead and will be like that forever. Do you know a good substitute for eggs?
    Much love✨❤️

    Great video!

  24. Lilly Tenshi on January 9, 2022 at 5:49 pm

It might not be 100% related to the topic in the video, but i do think its a good place to ask.
I have had a dietarian who gave me some advice in the past, but seeing her regularly was too expensive as it was not covered by my insurance.
So i would appreciate advice if anyone has any for me.

I had an ED for most of my teen life, meaning anorexia. When i started college my life turned really busy and for a moment i ate too much and gained weight.
Then i started my ED again really desperate to see the weight drop off but it didnt. I simply couldnt lose weight, even if i didnt eat to the point that i needed medical assistance (infusions, vitamins etc)

That is when i also started seeing the diaterian. Who in short told me to just eat more than i do now, and that i will lose weight once my body gets out of the starvation mode.
But when will my body do that? when will i finally start losing weight??

I think i done that mostly fine for the past few years. Its hard but i try my best. Whenever im stressed i forget to eat, or i avoid food. But for the most i have three meals per day, i try to reach my 1000kcal per day while also still eating healthy. Meaning i only drink water, i dont eat many carbs or sugars, etc.

But sadly i havent lost weight, if anything whenever im stressed i gain weight again. Its amazing how i can eat more than i did in the past, and i do not gain weight. Knowing that took some anxiety off my chest. However, even if i eat regularly the weight doesnt drop. And whenever i am being weak and forget to eat, i quickly gain weight within a few weeks of stress.

So im at a point where im just really desperate to lose weight and this makes it even harder for me to eat. Whenever i eat i feel like i simply do not deserve to, because how can i lose weight when i eat food. But i really want and need to lose weight, and i know that in theory i can only lose weight if i eat. Even though its a huge contradiction to me.

I would really appreciate if you have any kind of like hack for my metabolism. I exercise regularly, i try to sleep regularly, i try to not stress as much in my life but its hard. I try to eat three times per day, and like i said i do try to eat minimum 1000kcal per day (the calculated needs for me are 2000 and on some days i get there too), while also keeping in mind the proportions i was given and cooking healthy – vegetables and proteins being at the top.

Definitely the most healthy video I’ve ever watched for weight loss that really feels sustainable. Thank you for your precious tips, I loooooooove your channel!

  27. Caitlin Heusz on January 9, 2022 at 5:52 pm

I discovered that I HAVE to eat chocolate every day. If I eat it every day I can stick to a small amount but if I deprive myself I’ll eat an entire block.

  28. Nicolas on January 9, 2022 at 5:53 pm

"It’s up to your body to decide what to do" …the things those "anti-diet dieticians" come up with is just mind-boggling. You’re just afraid of being cancelled by the tiktok body positivity crowd. If a client believes in HAES, they need psychotherapy, not nutrition coaching.

  29. Tianka Pharaoh on January 9, 2022 at 5:54 pm

Hi! Love all your content. More “I never thought I would make this type of video” videos please 🥰👏🏽👍🏾

  30. David Cover on January 9, 2022 at 5:58 pm

RD here, but in the first few minutes where you say weight loss is ultimately up to the body, not the individual, is a bit of a defeatist mentality when it comes to improving your health.

Weight loss is ultimately up to the individual, but it has become extremely difficult in the “obesigenic” environment we currently live in.

  31. Kane6676 on January 9, 2022 at 6:01 pm

I can eat 3 t bone steaks for belrrakfast and be starving an hour later so high protein means nothing for killing appetite

  32. Charlissa Berry on January 9, 2022 at 6:01 pm

I wont be able to get in to see my nutritionist until next year due to covid now and I really need help like this video. I enjoyed seeing the protein+healthyfat+fibre combinations visuals. Can you share more please. Thank you

  33. Gwennifer on January 9, 2022 at 6:01 pm

I started being more conscious about what I ate, and one thing I thought would be hard to give up was soda. I had one with dinner every night, sometimes another before or after, sometimes 3 times a day. Soda has always been in the house, it tastes good and is quick to grab. I drank a juice box at lunch, a sports drink at work, a coffee in the morning and soda in the evening. But it was surpringly easy to switch out soda for juice boxes and drinking the sports drink at work, and drinking water more. I still have coffee or hot chocolate in the morning, but thats more routine and enjoyment than anything 🙂

I’ve had 3 or 4 sodas over the last month, month and a half, and it kinda tastes weird now. I drink more juice if I really do crave a sugary drink, but if i really really want to kick back with my family and a soda, I let myself 👍

Pro tip for meal prep: when you cook legumes, save the water. That way you have legumes for salads and a soup you can add something to.

Your videos in conjunction with the intuitive eating book have helped me change how I experience food. It has taken a while but it’s really starting to help, thank you!

  37. Kaylee Willey on January 9, 2022 at 6:08 pm

My fear food is queso. I can’t seem to get it without going NUTS over it.

  38. Lorell Rogers on January 9, 2022 at 6:08 pm

“Eat the damn ranch!” I laughed out loud at this. Except in my case, it would be the blue cheese dressing. I agree with you, though…I think I’ve had too many issues with some foods being labeled as forbidden. Removing the fascination with a certain restricted food makes so much sense. Thank you!

  39. Stephanie Lindeman on January 9, 2022 at 6:09 pm

I so appreciate you saying that weight loss is not something we can directly control. I came to this realization a little while ago after trying to lose weight, I was doing everything "right" according to one very low-carb diet I had used in the past and after around 8 days, I didn’t lose a single *ounce* even though I did everything "right" and that’s when I realized, wow this is actually not something I can control! still trying to find a happy place with my body and food. but it is freeing to learn this because then you don’t get so mad at yourself when it feels like your behaviors aren’t working

  40. Anna Ewing on January 9, 2022 at 6:10 pm

Ngl, the part about weight loss not being a behavior or fully under our control, but up to the body…I actually teared up a little, because it was super validating as someone who’s struggled with my weight to some degree or another for most of my life due to thyroid problems. Even though I logically know it’s not my "fault," it’s always disheartening when I hear people going on about "calories in/calories out" as if eating less is a foolproof way to lose weight, when it just isn’t. So idk if you’ll read this, Abbey, but…thank you for acknowledging it isn’t always that simple. I just found your channel recently, but I love your approach to food and health, and I love how respectful you are about commonly overlooked issues that contribute to difficulties with weight management/healthy eating. Suffice to say you’ve earned a new subscriber.

  41. Melissa McKinney on January 9, 2022 at 6:10 pm

This is a good reminder for myself as I embark on a sustainable way to lose the weight I gained through my pregnancy. Keto (terrible I know) helped me lose 30 pounds. The day I hit my "goal", I found out I was pregnant. I loved how quickly I lost the weight the first time and had no intentions of staying on that type of diet long term. It did help me be in more in tune with hunger cues, but it’s been so hard this time around because I’m used to seeing the pounds literally fall off. I know losing weight a more "normal" way is going to be slower, but it is hard to not get discouraged at times. I’ve tried for two years to lose the weight and I do good for a while, but then binge and repeat. I realize that I won’t be able to cut calories drastically or cut out major food groups this time. Slow and steady wins the race. Plus having a toddler while being too restricted definitely affects my mental health. It’s hard to let go of the idea of a sprint and focus more on the marathon. Other than being at a weight that I am more comfortable at, I want to show my daughter how to have a healthy relationship with food. I don’t want to show her bad food or body image habits.

  42. Beks on January 9, 2022 at 6:11 pm

For years I would fail at diets and thought I would never lose the weight I gained. I have been living a healthier lifestyle for awhile now and working out. I dont deprive myself from anything, I eat everything in moderation. I track calories but I also track macros. Im trying to build muscle but lose fat so my calorie intake isn’t as low as most. I eat about 1972 calories a day and I lose about 1.5 pounds a week. The last 6 months of last year I lost 35 pounds then I got pregnant and had my daughter is August. Ive been back at it for over a month now and I dont plan on quitting. This is my life now.

Probably the best weight loss related video.

  44. Sarah Reutter on January 9, 2022 at 6:13 pm

Do you have support for moms of kids with celiac and multiple food allergies, that we moms have a healthy relationship with food? Meal prep and planning feels like a tendency into OCD, food fixation, etc. Yet not trying feels I’m not catering to my children’s "fun" with food enough in comparison to peers’ freedoms. Would love to hear more support for moms who have to think about food rules for their kids and how it affects them. Thanks for any help you can give!

  45. Rebecca Cantrell on January 9, 2022 at 6:14 pm

Your video is very professional and your special effects are entertaining. I also appreciate your views on HAES/weight loss. Most people agree but are afraid to admit it.
