IMHO the only mobile workstation worth considering is the Dell Precision Mobile Workstation line. Yes, they cost more, but I look at it this way: I bought an M6400 (Core 2 Duo, I upgraded it to a Core 2 Quad Extreme) back when it came out, and it is still chugging along. Oh I had to replace the motherboard once when the house got struck by lightning, I’ve had to replace both the GPU and CPU fans, and I have gone through three keyboards, and I’ve broken the media bar (my bad!), and I just replaced the screen hinges last year when the screen finally started to loosen up, but that takes me to my point: I can still buy every part for the Dell Precision. It’s overdue for replacement (I was waiting for the chicklet keyboard trend to die… the market rejected it in 1982 why did you bring it back? Apple!?!) but still perfectly serviceable. Also, my Precision has fallen off a ledge onto an asphalt-tiled concrete floor and is none worse for the wear; you can’t even tell it fell. And… it kept right on ticking.
I’m skipping the 5000 line and am going straight for the 7050.
