This video literally explained what we already knew. That the fridge won’t in outdoor temperatures.

So the answer seems to be insulate the garage or even set up a separate minisplit ac/heater for it..

Try being in Alberta when it’s winter. I rent a mobile home, and the assholes put the fridge in the addition (porch), which has no heat.

Y’know… it seems kid of ridiculous that you should have to HEAT YOUR GARAGE to keep your refrigerator running properly in COLD WEATHER. Talk about high electric bills!

Surely there must be a way to make a fridge run properly in an unheated garage.
Old refrigerators never had this problem. When I was growing up my uncle had one that worked properly for 30 years, in an unheated garage that frequently got down as low as 20-30 degrees every winter.

    So where are the tips?

What is the difference between a garage upright freezer and a regular freezer?

  12. abqcleve on November 6, 2021 at 11:33 am

Solution: buy a refrigerator garage kit for winter probs: a little heating pad installed with your fridge’s thermostat, usually in a plastic-covered control area where you also see the dial controlling temp. They can be specific to your manufacturer and fridge model so do a little homework to get the right one. In the summer, when temps are over 100°, consider using a portable swamp cooler (if your area is relatively arid, like in the SW) if you have one. But, they run about $200-300, so it’s probably not worth buying one specifically to help your fridge either reduce electric costs or extend life (a new fridge can be had for $400-500 and will still last many years, even under harsh garage conditions). If your garage fridge is over 20 years old, consider trading it in for a new one: those are usually significantly more efficient and many electric utilities will pay you $50 or so for a used, working fridge.

Is it ok to leave your fridge off for more than 12 months? please I need an answer

  16. liedersinger on November 6, 2021 at 11:40 am

This doesn’t help solve any problems. How about advice as to how to install a garage kit to keep the thermostat and compressor working.

I agree with the commenters below…this provides nothing but an explanation of why refrigerators don’t work in an uninsulated garage. It does not provide any useful information as to tips or solutions to this problem…

You can also cut a hole in the door right where the light switch is so that when the fridge is closed the light bulb doesnt turn off. That produces enough heat. Come summer, slap some tape over the hole and the light goes back out when shut

  19. Michael’sUF on November 6, 2021 at 11:47 am

    That’s no tips! That’s information.

I live in South Florida. Cold weather is not the issue. Do they make heavy-duty freezers just for hot environments?

  21. Paula Wilder on November 6, 2021 at 11:50 am

I just added a string of mini incandescent Xmas lights to the inside of frig. I can adjust the temp by how many of the lights I leave outside.

  22. Greg on November 6, 2021 at 11:51 am

    so where are the tips?
