Ben – Noticed you use the Dell XPS. I just bought one and have a lagging mouse on an external monitor. Dell can’t figure it out. Do you have this issue? Love the video and will use it to buy something else rather than the XPS since the mouse lags on wireless external mouse along with samsung monitor. All other laptops tested with same mouse work at my house

I’m struggling with finding a laptop, not only for school and graphic design, but I’m also big into playing the Sims 4 right now and using it to record game play for YouTube videos. I had a 2011 MacBook pro and it’s recently died on me. I’m partial to Macs, but am open to something else. What would you recommend?

    Hi Ben,
My daughter does a lot of art on her art pad that runs off of her laptop. She needs to upgrade as her current laptop has the fan running all the time. She uses multiple art programs. If there was a budget of $3K to $4K for a new laptop (she is putting half towards this…:), what is a really good laptop. Her art varies from graphics to caricatures to fashion. Your video was excellent, informative, so we look forward to your thoughts & opinion. Maybe she doesn’t have to spend that much..:)

Hello. When I look up the MSI Modern 15 (right now, in late-November) I see the specs/hardware are very different from what your video says. For example, your video says i7 processor, & 16gb of RAM, but as I look online, it says i3 processor with 8gb ram.

Is there a reason for this, like different ‘models’ of these laptops, or something?

Best laptop for figma and web flow?

So helpful!! Learned a lot in that last educational section! I’m really into color and especially interested in learning more about color accuracy. Color accuracy is a big factor in me picking which laptop to buy (for graphic design, photo editing, and video editing). But all the stuff mentioned is a big factor too. It’s all new and jargon to me so it’s very helpful how this video helps explain it more. Leaning towards Acer Concept D3.

My Lenovo L340 has a 9th gen i5 H series processor. Base clock is 2.40GHz but constantly get over 4GHz in all 4 cores when performance mode is enabled.

  15. Abdullah YILMAZ on March 13, 2021 at 12:22 am

8 gb ram is simply not enough. You’ll experience so much lag running Adobe softwares it will make you hate design. Learn from my mistake and get at least 16 gb.

  16. moon rabbit on March 13, 2021 at 12:23 am

I got a Dell XPS desktop and I hate it. Its not faster in anything from my old laptop and it’s so noisy! My internet connection is also slow in the desktop. I have to work from a Remote Desktop and it’s a slowwww 😭 The monitor is ok but it has no speakers. I want to go back to a laptop and I’ll be working on video editing to support my teammate later on. Please help me :’( I wished I’d seen your videos earlier

  17. Blair M on March 13, 2021 at 12:23 am

The links keep leading me to the computers, but they have less ram than they were said to have in the video.

    Very informative 👏

  25. željko šimić on March 13, 2021 at 12:34 am

Budget laptops, except first one are useless. If you do not have color accuracy at least 87-95% then how will you design anything?! How will you prepare materials for printing. You would be sopending fortune on print ink or powder. So except first laptop, others are just useless for graphic designers, no matter the performance. Itis like you have well built body full of well developed muscles, but you can’t see the colors through your eyes.

Hy ben, im an upcoming graphic designer, but i also need a laptop i can edit my short films and keep up with my fashion designing. Which laptop would you recommend

  37. Chrispen Edwards on March 13, 2021 at 12:51 am

Question, in the opening for the budget group, you described the acer swift 5 as having an 8th gen processor, however the link in the description appears to feature a 10th gen. Is this the same laptop you described in your presentation, or an updated link or something of that nature, and if so, is the "8th gen still the recommendation in 2020-21? Thanks.

Very insightful, I’m in the market of purchasing a new laptop and I would like to get a Mac Book Pro. I want to be able to create basic graphics, video editing and animation, basically the laptop should be able to handle all types of design. What would be the best Mac book pro for my requirements? Is the Mac Book pro the best option should I consider something else?
