Would a grill function adds complexity and make it less durable? Nowadays many complex function stuff breakdown too quickly. My high tech car stereo/bluetooth/cd/reverse camera combo malfunctioned in just 2 years. Old car stereo working perfectly even after 12 years.

    Need:

    Inside light. Many don’t have.
Handle. Button opener makes door fly open
    On/Off sound
    Doesn’t move when opening door
Keypad. Knobs are in 30 sec increments without option to cook less than that

  21. Tom and Beth Hodges on January 10, 2021 at 3:27 am

Regarding the Panasonic 696, you stated you could put a 12 inch casserole dish in there with a rotating dish of 12.4 inches. How is this possible since corner to corner measurement of a 12 inch casserole dish is 16 inches. So, when the dish rotates the corners would hit the walls. I can see this happening if

  33. Joe Cox on January 10, 2021 at 3:38 am

most designers are stupid. mirror door blocks user to view inside, little microwave has a reversed or up/down door opening, other problems include reduced quality or life span (Panasonic 696 has 22% 1-2 stars), small number or no number keys, hard to touch keys, noisy oor slippy turnable plate.

Never buy panasonic microwaves about these reviews says who? I owned panasonic got two months out of them had an oster that cooked one frozen dinner and broke

  45. K Danagger on January 10, 2021 at 3:56 am

Inverter microwaves are technically superior with consistent power delivery at any power level vs a standard microwave which has to cycle between fully on and fully off every 10 to 20 seconds or so. This causes uneven defrosting, with cooked edges while the center is still frozen. Inverter models defrost and cook more evenly, although large food items will still heat slower at the center (that is unavoidable in any microwave). Inverter ovens are also much more energy efficient, because they eliminate the power wasting bulky 60Hz AC transformer component by using smaller and more efficient high frequency solid state components to do the voltage conversion. This energy can also be pulse-width-modulated at a high frequency so that the power output is smooth and continuously variable. You can’t do that with a conventional microwave oven power supply.
This all sounds GREAT – except for one thing. High power – high speed switching semi conductor devices never have been – and probably never will be – as reliable as the old fashioned transformer – which is as reliable as a rock. This means that inverter microwaves typically have a much shorter lifespan before their power electronics fails – which in most cases means that the oven is not worth repairing.
All microwave ovens – including conventional models – have another weakness that causes a lot of failures. That weakness is the door safety interlock switches. These switches can actually last a very long time if they are not abused, Unfortunately, many people do abuse them – unknowingly. The door safety switches are not intended to be used to routinely shut off the microwave to check the temperature of the food. Many people do this! You should always press the stop button before opening the door to eliminate the stress on the door switch that occurs when breaking the circuit at high power levels. If you burn the contacts on the door switch, they can either stick closed, or not make contact at all. Secondary door switches will typically sense the door is open if the high power switches get stuck closed and will not allow the oven to operate. A door switch that is burnt and won’t make contact will prevent the oven from operating at all.
