Correction at the launch of the Dreamcast on 9/9/1999 . It launched with games like SoulCalibur Marvel vs. Capcom Sonic Adventures Crazy Taxi Hydro Thunder Mortal Kombat Gold and I can go on. The Dreamcast right out of the gate was coming out punching and kicking. In my opinion from the 6 console generation the Dreamcast was a fighting game fans dream just like the Sega Saturn in the 5th console generation.

I have fondness of my OG Xbox and playing my friend’s PS2, but for me the 7th generation was the sweet spot.
It was a good balance.
The consoles having a great amount of single player offline focus not being internet dependent, fairly good DLC, Multiplayer got bigger but was still an addon and there were probably only a handful of microtransactions.
Remember the OG Xbox really was just a foot in the door for Microsoft as they stopped it relatively quickly and their best true console so far was the Xbox 360.
The Dreamcast many could see was going to go, but it lived on very well in other consoles and Sega seemed quite interested being in Microsoft’s camp.
The PS2 was not a just gaming event, but a pop cultural event as well that saw many famous game series get their start on the machine,
but the PS3 though it didn’t achieve the heights as the PS2, in some faults of its own allowed incredible competition between the Xbox 360 and PS3. This time it was about which versions of third party games worked better for you AND both consoles had powerful exclusives each.
Nintendo found it’s true identity by not being about the most powerful console or large number of third party support (which was also its weakness) but opening gaming to a different bigger market with the Wii and if you are fan of Nintendo IPs, you were still right at home.

Perhaps I misunderstood but I disagree if you’re saying the DC had a weak lineup in 2000:
-Shenmue
-Crazy Taxi
-Ready 2 Rumble Boxing Round 2
-Marvel VS Capcom 2
-Skies of Arcadia
-Jet Set/Grind Radio
-Resident Evil: Code Veronica
-Space Channel 5
-Dead or Alive 2
-Rayman 2: The Great Escape
…to name a few.
And that’s after being released with the greatest launch lineup of all time in ’99:
-Sonic Adventure
-Ready 2 Rumble Boxing
-SoulCalibur
-Hydro Thunder
-NBA 2K
-House of the Dead 2
-NFL 2K
-NFL Blitz
-Power Stone
-Blue Stinger
I agree that the launch games for the Gen 6 consoles were mostly basic especially in comparison to the late releases of the PS1 and 64 but the DC is the one shining exception.

5th and 6th gens were THE eras to play video games. The tech was in that sweet spot just enough for you to have a great experience to play well and enjoy and not to suck the living life out of you and have you melting be4 the screen 24/7. Truly a great time to be around the sport im glad i was and still to this day i pop out my systems and have a blast of a time.

6th gen was factually the best and was the last generation where games were about games and had soul to it too. After the 6th gen, games weren’t good anymore. Here’s a fact for all 7th-9th gen fans: New games blow ass. Yes, stay mad and triggered. It’s a cold hard fact that old games are better and have soul.
7th gen is getting older to be considered "retro" but I refuse to call it retro. It’ll never have the soul to be retro no matter how old. When 40 years pass, I’ll still not call any generation starting with 7th gen retro. Gaming should just be shut down forever. Stick to true retro gaming from 3rd to 6th gen.

Ive had the following: C-Vic20, Amiga500, NES, Genesis, PS1, PS2, XBox 360 then I just stopped, for the graphics quality of the 360 is enough for gaming and striked a good balance. Unfortunately online gaming became the buzz in 7th gen era and as a result the depth of story modes in games suffered. Online gaming never interested me at all. Only to play a football match or a few races against buddies as we grew apart geographically. I dont like to play with stangers and some of later games on 360 have dismal campaign modes way to short.
I now buy 360 games for my 7 year old and quite frankly its fine, I have a genesis with a flashcart and all the games I ever wanted. I have a complete library of games that I ever wanted for NES to PS2 and Im just waiting for recalbox to create a port for the raspberry pie 4, then Ill be done. The pie 4 should be able to play most of the 6th gen games pretty well. The pi 3 is okay but only up to 4th gen is good, n64 to ps2 dont really run well on the pi 3.
Cant wait to play Porsche challenge and gran turismo 1 on a pi4 recalbox with my kid.
I personaly believe the 7th generation was the bridge from the golden age to the dark age. On the one hand, games where still made with love and passion. It give birth to some of my favorite games. Mass Effect, Gears Of War, Bioschok, Darksouls and many more. But on the other hand: During this generation, the popularity of Call Of Duty begin to rise, and because of it, the trend of gritty online FPS games was born. Activsion also made to notorious Skylanders franhise at that point, wich promoted the idea of not giving the player all the content in the game when they buy the god dam game. Meanwhile, EA was already buying up developers like bioware at took more control over how their games where made. They also started experimenting with DLC.
When i look at the 7th generation, i see one half that’s so beatifull, and the other half wich is just monsterous. Picture Two Face from Batman.

No dlc – you paid cash and get full game from start to finish if there was some new storylines/levels of game they were unlocked when you finished the main campaign.
What now? You finished game pay some 20-30 bucks more to get full game bro!
Splitscreen – Almost every game had it back then that was way more better when you sitting with you buddy or girlfriend and just playing game on one console not in muiltiplayer.
Speak of multiplayer – back then there was no multiplayer emphasis like now storyline was more important.
Free multiplayer – But thanks to Microsoft they put paid online in Xbox 360 while PS3 had free online and in 8 generaion Sony catch this idea and put paid online to PS4.
There was no feminism and lgbt propaganda in games that made games even more bad.
That was golden age of gaming no stupid things like now.
