    asteroids 1979???

  2. Chris Saindon on October 10, 2021 at 8:27 am

Asteroids was a ground-breaker in speed and control. Yes, it was just a black and light blue but game play was and STILL is awesome!

I was hoping to see Sheriff in there…

lunar lander and spacewars were amazing! thanks for posting

  5. Bruce P on October 10, 2021 at 8:31 am

you mentoned "Sonar", there were dozens similar to it such as "Sub Hunt" that used a realistic periscope device. Red Baron. wasted rolls of quarters on Donkey Kong. and there was one, the name currently escapes me, but it was a trap/skeet shotgun shooting game that was 2 player side by side that sent circular blobs of light across the screen that exploded if you hit them.

I would call it the Bronze Age of arcade gaming w/ Pong the 1st commercially successful game, spawning many bootlegs til the market became oversaturated, thus causing the 1st videogame crash..that is until Space Invaders ushered in the Golden Age of gaming and singlehandedly saved gaming as we know it, from being just relegated to bars, pool halls and bowling alleys-now even doctor offices and restaurants would have a game or two. To me it’s the Godfather of all gaming while Pong is still the granddaddy of games.Computer Space wasn’t commercially successful enough to take Pong’s place in history but it IS the 1st videogame ever made, respectfully..And dont forget Space Wars and Tora Tora ..! ( Next to Asteroids (1979)Space Invaders Deluxe is my favorite one from the ’70s, that’s why my avatar is a space monster..:)

    Really great memories!😊🌌

  8. dignityshmignity on October 10, 2021 at 8:34 am

Okay, so you chose Sonar, but skipped the game that featured a real periscope, Sea Raider?
Your score came up as "tonnage sunk"! They made a more modern, faster moving game called
Sea Wolf. There is a new version based on the originals, but it’s a redemption game.

    Old school games nice

i have sweet-sour memories of gun fight. I was a small kid and occurred to me being around some very early home console for display in a store during the late seventies, running, you guessed it, "Gun Fight". Another kid of my age came by and we immediately started a heated duel, pretty balanced, that went on for ten intense minutes, maybe even less, until the store owner kicked both of us from his premises. Probably he was good at spotting poor kids who couldn’t become customers anyways. That storeowner may or may be not still living today and I kinda forgot that episode, but I’d like to address him, forty years later, now that I’m an old mean guy myself who stopped behaving, my most vibrant F*** YOU °°°HOLE .

    The sleet shooting game was…

    (brain kicked in)

Laser Clay, if I recall it was made by Nintendo in the early 70s, but gained massive recognition in the later 70s when video arcades such as video city, video galaxy, Malibu grand prix took a serious hold in society.

My 2 personal favorites of all time are:

Robotron and Tempest … could play for an hour per quarter on either game.

  12. Fireforeffect on October 10, 2021 at 8:41 am

No missile command, track n field, jungle hunt, dragons lair, I still like your list.

  13. Paulie Jay on October 10, 2021 at 8:41 am

The first time I played Space Invaders there was no joystick, but buttons to move left and right.

I’ve forgotten the name of my fav. game. Does anyone remember a game that as panted red white and blue like Evel It was B&W . A little motorcycle went in a zig zag motion from top to bottom of the screen where it jumped an ever increasing number of busses

    Are you guys twins?

  22. D. Vaughn on October 10, 2021 at 8:54 am

    I was a kid of the 70’s/80’s.
I remember the following (additional) big hits of the 70’s:
    Sea Wolf
    Firefighter
    Atari Football
    Night Driver
    Super Breakout

  23. Seniku Moonjewel on October 10, 2021 at 8:55 am

No Red Baron? I spent a damn fortune on that game.

  24. Mark Hanson on October 10, 2021 at 8:55 am

I have been searching ( with no luck obviously ) for the name of a space shooter that was obviously inspired by Star Wars, as it had you firing lazers at Tie Fighters in a first person perspective. I played it all the time at our local grocery store. No luck turning up the name, must have been made around the time of the first Star wars film, so 1977 or thereabouts.

  25. Thomas Dickensheets on October 10, 2021 at 8:58 am

    I play Space Invaders.

  26. Thomas Dickensheets on October 10, 2021 at 9:01 am

    I born in 1960’s.

  28. PonchoClos on October 10, 2021 at 9:04 am

One of my favorite ones from the 70s is Atari’s Starship 1. When I first played it at the Sears in Laredo, Texas, I was not tall enough to see the screen. But I liked the game’s sounds, and two of the ships resembled those from Star Trek.

  29. Nele Abels on October 10, 2021 at 9:04 am

Damn. I remember all those games from my childhood on real arcade machines.

    I am so frigging old…

  30. Code Optimization Ware on October 10, 2021 at 9:05 am

Great choices! Although these two ’70s classics deserve an Honorable Mention:
    _Star Fire_ [Exidy; 1978]: https://youtu.be/XwELyhziVmc
    and
_Seawolf_ [Dave Nutting Assoc. (dist. by Midway); 1976]: https://youtu.be/ss0FEdCIJEM

Speaking of _Galaxian_ and _Galaga_ (@ 2:24), the latter is really the sequel to the former, followed by _Gaplus_ (AKA, _Galaga 3_ ) [Namco, 1984] and then _Galaga ’88_ [Namco (dist. by Atari in US); 1987] and then some others, you can find the rest of them hehehehe

    I won’t subscribe you

  32. Miles Campbell on October 10, 2021 at 9:07 am

The earliest games were all black & white, a popular one was Robot Bowling…

  33. JinzoCrash on October 10, 2021 at 9:08 am

Dear god, i’ve played every one of these.
I remember seeing 2 or 3 of these ONLY at "Sesame Place" in Langhorne, PA.

  34. kevmorris3000 on October 10, 2021 at 9:09 am

I believe Death Race was inspired by the movie Death Race 2000, which was released the year before. In the movie, there was a race across the USA and drivers would get points based on running over innocent civilians. Babies and old people scored the most.

  35. GRA-EME D on October 10, 2021 at 9:10 am

I would have to disagree with your “ill fitting pants” statement. I think the 70s has some of the best fitting pants ever. Asses were hugged and thighs were wrappers tight. Even if they did flare out they still fitted where it mattered. Better than 80s parachute pants or tapered styles. Just my opinion 😉

  36. Greg Winsett on October 10, 2021 at 9:11 am

How old are you guys? The reason I ask is because you guys know nothing of the details of these games – The video you show of space invaders is not Space Invaders, I feel like you are trying to come across as having knowledge of playing the games, when clearly you do not, By the way, they were not called templates. They were called Overlays.

  37. Raychel Cunningham on October 10, 2021 at 9:12 am

    packman rocks

  38. André Hajjar on October 10, 2021 at 9:12 am

    Hello

  42. Gazzapper Games on October 10, 2021 at 9:18 am

    Where’s Pong?

  43. Arcade Kaos on October 10, 2021 at 9:18 am

Love the fact you guys are game lovers but there’s something weird about these videos maybe it’s the format do you need more funny edits or something I don’t know it’s good but it seems like it’s missing the secret ingredient from being great not trying to be mean just trying to give some constructive criticism

  44. oneseirios on October 10, 2021 at 9:19 am

Great selection. Nostalgic good old times, when fun was the main reason we used to play for !

  45. Shit_on_my_face on October 10, 2021 at 9:20 am

Hey, You know in space invaders the bad guys speeding up was unintentional? The less there were, the faster the game ran because the processor had a lighter load. Turned out to be a key component of the game and one of the ONLY and last examples where humans could be faster than the computer.

  46. D. Vaughn on October 10, 2021 at 9:21 am

NO – Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak DID NOT design the arcade version of Atari Breakout!! This is false history, that just keeps getting repeated, over and over! Wozniak, friend of Jobs and Hewlett-Packard employee, created a version of Breakout, for Atari, but it was not put into production. Jobs, a not particularly talented, Atari technician, took credit for Wozniak’s work, and earned a $5000.00 bonus. He gave Wozniak only $350.00!

  47. eauhomme on October 10, 2021 at 9:22 am

One notable omission–How about Night Driver? First sit-down race game. A plastic overlay car over a screen of white pylons flying by. Very simple graphics that made for a great game.

  48. Jan Chapman on October 10, 2021 at 9:22 am

Gun Fight wasn’t based on lives, it was a timed game.  you kept playing until the timer reached zero

  49. Marcus Schulz on October 10, 2021 at 9:23 am

    Where is Pong?

  50. YouthfulElf on October 10, 2021 at 9:25 am

Wasn’t there an arcade version of Canyon Bomber made during that same decade?
