There is a lot you have to consider when you buy a VR ready laptop or PC – more than with regular gaming. Not only are the recommended specs for software important, but also for the VR headsets, and even things like available USB bandwidth (especially for Oculus Quest owners).

And some laptops only have HDMI ports while many new headsets don’t support that anymore, not even with an adapter. But after this video, I hope to give you all the info you need to buy a VR-ready laptop, or you could use this info for a PC too. But even if you already have one, you may want to check it out for some tips.

Let us know what you think of this laptop and whether you’re going to buy a VR laptop or PC!

EDIT: Correction, at 04:37, I ranked the MAX-Q GPU’s a little higher than where they should be. The non-Max-Q versions are considered “desktop” GPUs, but some laptops (including some from ASUS) do have them. So if you have the option to get the non-Max-Q version, that would be the better option. Thanks to FuriousFur for pointing this out!

Hi thanks for the vid, i dig your accent, I was wondering will my msi gl75 1660ti 10th gen i7 with 16gb ram i just ordered be able to handle VR on a oculus rift s pretty decently? i know its compatible but will it be "decent". Thanks again. Edit: at 4:44 i noticed the 1660ti was not included in that list, was there a reason for that?

  7. Tina L. on July 8, 2021 at 2:29 am

What do you recommend for laptop specs for a valve index?

  8. Moo Moo on July 8, 2021 at 2:30 am

That seems pretty high end, is there a budget option for VR headsets like the first Quest?

  9. Adam Loving on July 8, 2021 at 2:32 am

I wouldn’t buy an intel laptop right now if I were you

  12. Southeast Angler on July 8, 2021 at 2:37 am

Get desktop for vr dont be a idiot. Your laptop will be old news quickly. You can keep up with the times with desktop and save a ton of money.

  13. JAMFUTUBE on July 8, 2021 at 2:39 am

Laptop recommendation 2020 : wait for the 5000 series AMD ones with high end nVidia cards, coming out in a few months. Intel is standing still, which is the same as going backwards in a fast moving world.

  14. Narwal Manu on July 8, 2021 at 2:39 am

Oh my god I didn’t know Chary works for Coolblue!

  15. Planefan 08 on July 8, 2021 at 2:41 am

I know I’m late, and I know Intel’s the sponsor and all, but save yourself a couple hundred bucks and get a lot of extra performance (plus better battery life, cooling, etc in a laptop especially) by getting an AMD cpu.

  16. Jonathan Pitre on July 8, 2021 at 2:41 am

There’s absolutely no reason to buy an Intel CPU in 2020, none
Not knowing AMD is definitely not a valid argument either. Just Google it and look at the review.

  19. Mohsin S. on July 8, 2021 at 2:47 am

I love this channel! So much helpful and in depth information you give which most youtubers ignore.

I had no idea usb type c could be 2.0 as well and as you can guess I purchased a type c usb 2.0 for my quest and it sux so bad ;-; I learned my lesson and ordered a 3.1 Gen 2 cable the next day hope it’ll give better quality cause with 2.0 its so down scaled and blury 🙁

  32. Andy on July 8, 2021 at 3:04 am

Thanks for this video, after watching VR and gaming laptop videos for two days, this video is the first I have seen to clearly detail Oculus Quest 1/2 Link specific port and specs info for laptops. There are videos for gaming laptops some that loosely touch on the Quest link, but they only seem to mention a requirement for USB-C and we know from gaming desktops, not every USB-C port necessarily works with Oculus fibre link cable, I know USB3 can be used in some cases with the correct cable, but to get this wrong purchasing a gaming laptop could be a really expensive mistake, so thanks for your help.
