Idk what to expect out of these comments. The Linux community is a rather fickle one. But anyway… take a shot every time I say “solid” lol.
As you can tell, I’m not too passionate about telling other people what distro they should use. It’s really all personal preference but I hope I shed some light on how to go about picking the right Linux Distro for you.
In short, I recommend Ubuntu (Debian-based). Or if you want an Arch Linux-based distro, then Manjaro. These are solid for beginners and experts alike. There are also a few distros I mentioned if you want the familiarity of Windows. Feel free to comment your recommendation below and why you recommend it for beginners.

mint > ubuntu for beginners.
The best Linux doesn’t exist. For family and friends Ubuntu, for yourself what you like and work!
7:5 um I have got lenovo think0ad L590 I5 8gen not the best but I got some problems Installing manjaro. I couldn’t find Boot_efi option so windows 10 didn’t recognized it….. Anyone Have ideas about it??
What do you think about KDE Neon?
2 minutes into the video…. PROTON FTW!
Manjaro XFCE is my shiiiiiit. I love it so much, over 15 years of distro hopping has finally come to an end. Very good advice in this vid.
I went from Windows to Ubuntu, then to Mint because it was supposed to be better for a begginer user than Ubuntu. However, in my experience it was far less stable. Often my laptop would not switch off on Mint, forcing me to kill it with the physical button. Eventually, that bug let to system files getting corrupted. Now that I’m back on Ubuntu I’ve also found out that my work flows better on Gnome than on Cinnamon so yeah
I love Linux and hate Windows, but nobody makes good software that runs well on Linux, so I’m using Windows.
Yup, that sounds about right.
"*Best Linux Distro*"
proceeds to watch on android
No matter when I swith to other distro
In the end back to arch ecosystem. EndeavourOS is good choice for me.
Long live AUR xD
the biggest software that is a must for me is corel draw so for me im never gonna use a linux distro unless corel makes it so
Bro, i am not a beginner, i used linux many times. And i know all basics. I don’t want that my linux should look like windows or mac. It’s doesn’t matter. I want a distro using which i can learn more than basics and learn inner things of linux. That how internally linux works and where each and every single file goes when installing a package or anything like that. I want to learn the flow of linux OS. Means if i see a linux with some problem i should be able to solve it. I want to learn that deep.
What distro should i use now ?
Any help would be appreciated so much.
Does pipewire come native on anything?
I’ve been planning on getting into linux a bit more so. Recently I’ve been dead set on getting Pop OS. I really don’t care about having a similar experience to windows. I’d be fine with figuring out on my own where things are because I think it would be refreshing. Plus System 76 has made one of the downloads with Nvidia drivers already installed which is a big plus. I have heard that getting Nvidia on linux yourself is a pain.I have had a taste from messing around with Raspbian on the PI.
I’ve run Zorin since late 2012, and overall, it’s been a very good distro. I’ve tried others, but have always gone back to the big Z
Solid intro to Linux here! As a Linux newbie myself before, I started with Mint but I’m now on Debian
Hate to correct you, but it’s pronounced Debbbyann (debian) after the creators daughter, Debby. Not deebian. Got it?
i use arch linux besause it is better for gaming than ubuntu and the installation was easy with a grafical console install wich name i forgot
and manjaro got a grafical install
Elementary OS just cause it’s so damn pretty
Mint Cinnamon is like… VISTA?!?!
Very few people would want to use it if that were the case.
It has the look and feel of Win7.
Gentoo has best community tbh.
i have pop OS and it pretty good i just takes a little to get used to is like a mix of windows mac and chrome OS its different and free and very easy to install i just watch a video or 2 because i wanted to dual load windows and Linux to try it out before i completely switch when i get my gaming pc
using linux mint 20
getting my toes into linux
as a ultra noob 🙂
The best one after five years of using the OS, is the one with the package manager that pisses you off the least.
Zorin is indeed a good starting point. I’ve used it as my first distro for a few months. My only complaint is that the default gnome DE is a bit heavy and sluggish to my taste. I also tried plasma, but it’s too overwhelming for a beginner and non-power user like me. Now I’ve hopped on over to the Budgie flavors of Ubuntu and Manjaro. Budgie is the "Goldilocks spot" DE for my experience and preferences.
i saw the thumb nail and thought " Wow Idubbbz has gotten older"
"I use Kali Linux becaus-"
*SLAMS DOOR*
"FBI"!
OPEN UP"!
Windows is shit, MacOS is still shit, but less shitty. Linus is the only OS that makes sense, but it’s a shame that not everything works on it 🙂
I want to give a try to Mint, but the default mirrors that come after the installation are too slow and when I try to search a different ones is the same story, so, I don’t know if it’s a geographical issue or what. I live in Bolivia BTW.
what little experience I have with Linux comes mostly from Mageia (which I only got because I’m a hopeless hipster who goes for the obscure shit).
I don’t remember enough to recommend it or not, but I believe it was based on red hat/fedora, not debian. So do with that what you will, I guess.
If I may add on, based on my experience the distro is an extension of the user, if you’re casual, not a keyboard warrior, just like playing games, Ubuntu, Mint, Fedora, Debian, if you enjoy the terminal & love a challenge Arch or Gentoo, but personally while theres hundreds of Distros, I recommend sticking to the big 5, Gentoo, Arch, Debian, Fedora & Red Hat, the 5 all other Distros are based on, the reason I recommend those as opposed to Ubuntu or Mint, even Manjaro, is because they’re not guaranteed to always be around, Distros come & go every so often, but the big 5 remain, they aren’t going anywhere.
Run a virtual machine of linux mint, stupid easy to learn and you don’t have to mess with bootmanagers and messing up your PC. Any linux is easy to install compared to macOS on an AMD system with OpenCore.
Zorin or Manjaro?
as a windows person I tried Zorin OS 15.5 and while it looks like windows it feels vastly different as someone who’s used to customizing things and being able to navigate folders without thinking too much about where game saves go to.
Debian in my opinion is the most stable and resilient, I tried messing up with it intentionally and it still stood firm. But I think it may be a bit intimidating for newer users.
I was telling my family about Linux for long and they decided to try it for a month, so for my family’s computers I have installed Linux Mint and no one except my sister, who uses CAD, complained about anything and it has been almost a year. Mint, or Cinnamon if you wish, looks so much like Windows, and I think it is the most welcoming to Windows users, and I think they feel at home pretty quick, maybe except the settings but they picked it up quickly.
The customisation is a bit weaker than Gnome or KDE, but it is still better than Windows. And the similarity to Windows is very much appreciated by the newer users in my experience with my family.
I love when nerds look really nice like this and the video was great too
zorin os, why? its Irish
they are all rubbish, stop trying to convince ordinary people this s$#% is good, wasting every ones time.
Honestly, I think arch is a good choice for beginners. Sure, the installation is pain, but everything else is easier because you have so much software you can install easily with pacman. The reason I stayed on Arch was because pacman is so much nicer to use than something like apt or dnf.
Ты про Линукс? или Лыникс? Что, черт возьми, такое Лыникс? В английском алфавите Ы даже не существует. Why are you distorting the word so much, adding the non-existing in English nor in Finnish language vocal there? Why do you have to replace the i with Russian ы and the u with i? Give some respect to Linus and pronounce the word as it originally was. At least that much should you be able to do.
For me, CENTOS 7
Disappointing video. Way too little information given in too long a video. You compared like 2 to 3.
I would actually recommend Garuda over Manjaro if gaming is an interest. Both are based on Arch, but Garuda has IMO better defaults, and includes a lot of gaming tweaks.
I am a simple man i like ubuntu.
over the years i tried some linux distributions for some period but i always needed windows to run games and tools like rufus and 3u tools that only run on windows. Zorin OS looks nice but i had the problem that if i move files it often happened that i couldnt see the progress. Some years ago i used manjaro. manjaro is cool but for me it feeled kinda messi. there was that moment where my pacman wouldnt work and it took me hours to fix it. Now i freshly installed pop os some days ago and ill try to setup qemu using gpu passthrough so i can finaly dump windows as host system and my macbook if everything goes well.
I’m a fan of MX Linux. I’m a noob, and it seems to be idiot proof. It’s a good distro, if you have Intel graphics. It’s got a driver built in, all you have to do, is activate it. I just like it, overall.
I agree start with ubuntu, it’s simple, I would say more than windows, also biggest community, so it’s easy to google for problem troubleshoting… maybe just try it in virtual computer, when you get on with using terminal, it’s good time to search for better distribution, which would suit you the best. If you do all, I think that ubuntu should fit you for a long time… or you can try arch, more complicated to learn install but gives you smaller OS with only what you really want
I haven’t used Linux for a long time. My HP laptop has Windows 10. I want to come back! I used to love Linux Lite and Crunchbang!
can you please make the history video i am a longtime linux user and i would like to learn a little bit about its history
