I had the HD model once. I got it as a bonus for buying a slightly used (I mean only 4 hours used) Epson EF-11 Laser Projector. I dabbled with it for awhile but, I did not care for what it had to offer so I thought maybe I’ll hack it to let me side load apps, but it became too much of a pain in the rear to deal with so I sold it for $100 (so that made the projector only cost $550). I’m much more happy using either my PC or Switch on it to be honest.

Yeah Apple Arcade has had some good exclusives (mostly timed) and I really want to play Fantasian

spongebob battle for bikini bottom runs best via the mobile/iOS version and much cheaper at $10.

Dood you have been missing out.

  6. Anthony Martinez on October 12, 2021 at 8:43 am

Trying to sync a bluetooth controller is the hardest part, apple doesn’t like to play nice with many devices. Won’t even acknowledge my 8bitdo controllers

Now, I feel like getting one of these! LOL Great review! Lots of helpful info! Thanks!

  9. Joe Gulizia on October 12, 2021 at 8:47 am

Apple Arcade is pretty legit Fantasian is a standout game for sure. There are a lot of other goodies on there.

  10. MD Genjin on October 12, 2021 at 8:47 am

If I could start my own special needs school, each of the 3 one-to-one rooms will have a large gaming monitor, Blu Ray player and Apple TV! There will also be a large 8K TV in the main hall wheeled out on occasion with an Apple TV and 4K Blu Ray player connected to it!

  11. Blaine Locklair on October 12, 2021 at 8:48 am

Glad to hear you are enjoying your Apple TV 4K. Very high quality device and doubles as a fun game box too.

bruh! number munchers on apple 2 for the win! me too!

  13. HydroThunder on October 12, 2021 at 8:52 am

I never have liked games you just stream. No way of backing up the game or preserving gaming in this fashion.

  14. Jack Davis on October 12, 2021 at 8:52 am

Can you do a video on Provenance on the AppleTV? It will require you to have a developer account but it’s a really nice looking raspberry pi-like emulator you can load onto it.

  15. Lee Sylvester on October 12, 2021 at 8:55 am

When the box first showed at the start of this video, it sure did look like a microwave oven. At least on my tiny iPhone screen.

My best streaming device is Odroid n2 with coreELEC and venom.

  19. Haunted Voyager on October 12, 2021 at 8:56 am

Apple TV is pretty awesome. I got into one when I had an older HDTV that wasn’t a Smart TV and it quickly became my favorite device for streaming as well.

  20. Praxss on October 12, 2021 at 8:58 am

    Apple = everything just works

  21. Jason Talerico on October 12, 2021 at 9:00 am

I have considered picking this up just so I can play the exclusive Taiko No Tatsujin tap beat game. Im a huge Taiko fan and it kills me that Apple has an exclusive Taiko game I do not have access to. That Castlevania game looks cool af too!

  22. PT Bunz on October 12, 2021 at 9:03 am

The Slayers? I used to have the first few VHS Tapes of the English dub.

Congrats on the soundbar, it is such a great piece of tech.

  24. Quantum Synapse on October 12, 2021 at 9:06 am

Never liked Apple products myself. I like the customization of the Nvidia Shield much better, and runs games great.

  25. EcranGlobal on October 12, 2021 at 9:06 am

Apple Arcade is a pretty solid service if you’re in the Apple ecosystem, the selection keeps growing and you can get it bundled in with your other Apple services such that it costs next to nothing. And it’s even better now that PlayStation and Xbox controllers are supported on all Apple devices. There are a few Apple Arcade games that are also on the Switch, so it’s not just mobile games. And speaking of the Switch, I use an Apple TV and an iPad as a kind of Switch, given that progress is synced between devices. Not my primary gaming platform by any means, but a nice service to have nonetheless.

    It has hdmi 2.1

  28. MechanicalAnimal on October 12, 2021 at 9:09 am

$200 for a device destined for a landfill as soon as 4 years after purchase? No thanks. I’ll go with the Roku Ultra for half the price and it’s also able to add private channels which AppleTV can’t (won’t) do. That includes adult content. I mean, I’m not going to really want to game on a Roku in fairness but that’s why I have game systems and a PC. Respect but I can’t get onboard with this recommendation unless you are buying something for a family member who you don’t want to be tech support for as Apple is a closed ecosystem.

  29. Retro Ed UK on October 12, 2021 at 9:09 am

I’ve had a few gens of Apple TV and to have really taken to it. Granted, it can motivate you to get stuck into the whole Apple ecosystem (phone, Mac, watch, clothes, toothbrush lol) but even as a stand-alone streaming device it’s pretty cool. I pay for AppleOne which includes arcade but haven’t used it much; now I’m aware of the castlevania game perhaps I’ll give it another shot. Cheers!

  30. smgofdvld on October 12, 2021 at 9:11 am

I think die hard gamers know steam and the big 3 are really where it’s at.

I unfortunately only played mobile games this Ps4 generation I can tell you for as good as certain mobile games are ok its just not on quality of Nintendo . cool for the people that like it but as someone who grew on consoles and pc it will always be my favorite platforms.

mobile is ultimately saved by emulators on the Android front dolphin Citra duckstation etc

  31. Syn.N on October 12, 2021 at 9:11 am

It not for me. I’m one of those that perfectly fine with using the build in streaming channels that come with the tv now. They are getting better at it. Where it not sluggish anymore. It to the point where I don’t see a point in taking up a HDMI slot just to do the same which is streaming shows. I never care to play games on these things. It just not the same and I rather just turn on the console if I’m going to play game on the tv anyways.

  32. lance pelissier on October 12, 2021 at 9:13 am

Since the Apple TVs are nothing but AC powered IOS boxes; all games are IOS games.

  33. GaMeR_bOi_83 on October 12, 2021 at 9:13 am

I have a iPhone, Apple Watch and a iPad and never looked at the Apple TV because I have all those apps on my tv. But I never took into consideration the audio.

  34. William William on October 12, 2021 at 9:15 am

This system runs on tvos based on XNU kernel that used on ios, and mac os

  35. Metal2Hedgehog on October 12, 2021 at 9:18 am

Only reason I know of Apple Arcade is because it got the sequel to Chu Chu Rocket, not counting the gba version.

A chu chu rocket sequel on apple arcade. It’s crazy.

This was actually pretty informative. I might consider picking one up if my fire stick ever goes down the crap.

  38. Edwin on October 12, 2021 at 9:21 am

Clearly, more console than the intellivision amico ever would be!

  39. Scott Wozniak on October 12, 2021 at 9:22 am

I own 2 modern Apple TVs but have never played games on them. My experience from owning iPhones and iPads for many years is that too many games ended up getting orphaned when a new iOS version was released. Not sure if that’s changed much. It was super annoying, especially when indie developers just stopped supporting a game you paid for, rendering it useless.

  40. MichiganJack on October 12, 2021 at 9:23 am

I just don’t understand how people play games on the phone (those that are not specifically designed for the platform) – I would like to know how the total play time.

  41. Jesse L on October 12, 2021 at 9:23 am

I use Arch Linux on my pc. But, two years ago I switched from Android to iPhone. The current iPhone is iPhone 13, yet iPhone 6s is still supported by Apple with the latest iOS. This is why I switched, it’s always a pain to have the latest version of Android on any given device.

  42. Edwin on October 12, 2021 at 9:24 am

No apple products in your life Ron? This needs to change! You need a new $1500 iphone each year! Despite you don’t need it!

  43. Christian D on October 12, 2021 at 9:24 am

Funny, got my new Apple TV yesterday. As an apple user setup is very easy, just hold your phone next to the atv and you are done.. Did not expect that they still need iTunes when setting this up without an apple device.

Apple is a company with shady business practices and anti-consumer behavior, so I will never give them any of my hard earned $$. I’m not judging people that do and I admit they make some quality products…but they’d have to make a device that blew me every night before I’d think about shelling out 1 dime 😯

  46. Sinn0100 on October 12, 2021 at 9:26 am

I’m not an Apple person nor do I plan on starting. I’m good with our Windows/Android environment and they play very well with each other. I do not see this as a console.

  47. Jeremy Peeples on October 12, 2021 at 9:28 am

The Apple TV is a low-key great gaming device – and it’s my first Apple device too.

  48. Paul Mindemann on October 12, 2021 at 9:30 am

Congrats! I’ve owned 2 Apple TV 4K boxes over the years, and they worked great. That said, they didn’t have ALL the apps I wanted. In comparison, I’ve had 5 Nvidia Shield Pros (some didn’t work… don’t ask), and that’s the streaming box I’ve finally settled on… it’s got a lot more flexibility and fantastic audio and video quality. Oh, and we have some Rokus and a Fire for convenience. They’re crap, lol.

  49. Rob Johnson on October 12, 2021 at 9:34 am

Looks pretty good, I’d be interested to see how it compares (performance wise) to an Nvidia Shield. Shield is quite old now, we use ours for emulation as well as the standard TV apps. Handles everything up to and including Gamecube very well. And the controllers are pretty nice.

Welcome to the cult my friend! Enjoy the apple cool-aid. IT JUST WORKS and premium feels good!
