So excited. My breville came today 😉. Question when air frying chicken. Does the drippings drip on the heating elements. Or do you put something under the air frying basket.
To anyone watching this Breville makes a cutting board top that sits on top to allow you to safely put things on top of oven. I think it the best 30 bucks I spent on a accessory. I’m able to leave my extra racks on top without having them heat up.
This is the bigger Oven Air Pro model, right? The regular Oven Air is a bit smaller.
I very much want to buy this oven but I had read so many posts about the glass door shattering that I’m rethinking it. There’s an amazing Facebook group of this oven and you can find that many many many have had the issue of their glass door shattering. I have kids and wouldn’t want to risk any injury.
Hi Christina, i have issues with the fan, its quite noisy, do you know how to rectify it? Thank you
Is this the BOV900bss?
Hey, thanks for the review. I have this oven and had it’s predecessor as well. I am a big Breville fan… however… I find that when you preheat this oven, (I mainly bake bread and pizza from scratch in it) it always beeps to say it’s preheated but the oven thermometer I put in it says, "Uhhh… no you ain’t!" It usually takes about a half an hour for it to get up to the 450º I bake pizza at. Am I missing something here? Is it ok to put whatever in after it beeps or do you do like I’ve been doing and don’t put whatever you’re trying to bake in it until the thermometer says it’s up to temperature. Your thoughts or anyones would be greatly appreciated!
I use my Breville Smart Oven Air several times a day .. wouldn’t live without it. I have several Le Creuset vessels I use with this oven… Some are cast iron and some ceramic. Never use my range oven except on holidays! Big fan of Breville kitchen appliances.
I love this Oven but just died after owning for bit over 3 years so Planning on replacing it but there few thing that were disposing is there was no cooking tips or recipe books were included with mine which makes it hard to the proper times for such things like frozen food meals cooks faster the cooking instructions say.
I’m on my second Breville. It’s the smart oven not air fryer and I use it DAILY! I’m not diligent about cleaning so it looks terrible. You mentioned toast and mine does a vestibule job. Over the years I have used every brand (almost) and this is the best.
Even tho it’s September I just ordered one from Amazon as a Christmas gift for my mom. We also have a Hamilton Beach brand indoor grill and that thing smokes the kitchen up like nobody’s business so to speak.
You mentioned it does smoke a little bit. How bad? Would it fill my kitchen up with floating smoke like my Hamilton Beach grill does?
Using it every day by an accomplished cook tells me everything… thanks.
Expected to see the function features of this oven but not how you used and cleaned up your mess.
Does it cook evenly? How about Cookies 🍪
a little baking soda on your rag will polish your metal racks, dip in a little vinegar to activate your b. soda to create some foaming to clean the inside, rinse with clean sponge.
Sugg. Before cleaning set a dish of boiling water inside for 10 min. to loosen deposits
Great review. Thanks for the information. I did want to ask about toasting. In the video, when you removed the toast, the under side looked considerably lighter than the top. How do you feel the toast function works; i.e., bread, bagels, English muffins?
You look so much like Emily Prentiss on Criminal Minds!
Hi I only have 3 inches from the top of the oven to my cabinet.
Do you think I’ll be ok with having it there? I really love it!
Great information yet again and many thanks. Currently we have a smaller Breville toaster oven that we love, it toasts perfectly and use daily and it’s easy to clean; it looks like new.
However, my daughter wants an "air fryer" and I’m debating on replacing our perfectly fine toasting oven with this Smart Oven Air or buying a dedicated air fryer. My take away is it looks like the Air Fryer part / use makes everything filthy. You know that grease has gotten everywhere else in your house too. So I don’t know what to do here…
_Footnote: My experiences .. cleaning for large glass areas including glass cooktops consider a razor scrapper but you must keep the blade an angle. I also use the pink Scotch Brite gentle clean sponges they won’t scratch. Incomplete contrast, the yellow ones (basically sandpaper in a sponge) absolutely will scratch everything. Lastly for ovens I use a hard sharp plastic scraper along with your choice of cleaner. You can even use to test this with almost any plastic disposable spoons._
Is this a replacement for a conventional oven or will it be lacking? Can it fit large casserole dishes and large cast iron pans (will they be too heavy)?
Hot
For enough counter space, directions say to keep six inches of clearance behind it.
I have an older version of the smart oven and wish to buy this one. Does it have more room for baking bread?? In my old one, the bread always reached the roof of the oven chamber.
SOS pads work amazingly and remove everyone without scratching the finish or leaving scratches. Don’t waste your money on glass cleaner or magic sponges.
…i love you, lalala lalala la. 🙃🙂
Nice video. It should pull around 15 amps and most home circuit breakers are 20 amps so you would not want to plug it on the same circuit as your refrigerator or something that pulls a lot of amps. It really should be on a circuit all its’ own. If not it will trip your breaker. That is annoying and can be unsafe. "Blow a circuit" sounds worse than "trip a breaker".
Love your honest review of the Breville. ❤️
Informative, thanks.
Put the rails etc in the dishwasher. I use Fairy Platinum All in One. What is left after using the dishwasher, if anything and if you’re a heavy oven user, comes off easily with a mesh scourer. 🙂
Have you had any problems with the select knob? I’ve had my oven for just over 2 years and love it, but lately the knob used to choose which feature I want to use will not respond correctly to the direction I am turning it to. Therefore I have had to leave it on bake and use the convection button to air fry.
can you bake using it?
Please give the model number. And all dementions
Excellent review, thank you
SOS will clean just about anything, it’s my go to…
Hi, do I need to do the preheating first before baking. It is in the manual. Thank u
smart oven vs air fryer? What’s the difference? I use my breville oven every day for multiple years now.
Steel wool on those
I assume you have it under your cabinets while you use it, if so, does it generate a lot of heat as exhaust that could potentially damage cabinets above it?
What are the inside dimensions? How large of cookie sheet would fit?
What’s the difference between "air fryer" and "bake" settings? I have this question for this one as well as other oven models that include air frying setting.
Your reviews on the Breville Smart Oven Air helped me decide with my purchase. I purchased mine 2 days ago and last night I broiled lamb chops which came out very tender without adjusting any settings…..delish. You’re reviews helped me with my purchase and I am excited about what I’m going to cook next.🤣😂🤣
I don’t care what anyone says. I had this same type of convection oven for six years and loved it!
Has anyone ever mounted one of these under the cabinets above the stove?
I’ve had two of these. The first one didn’t have the air fry option. It was YEARS ago that I got that one I’m sure before air fryers were as popular as they are now. I have loved BOTH of them. The reason I replaced the first one was because it didn’t hold up to my husband’s total cleaning. He got it too wet or something so beware ! *grin* So, based on my experience with the first one, I got this newer model. I looked on Amazon and got the biggest and baddest Breville offered. I have NOT been disappointed in the least.
Here’s my take on the options. Like you said, option 1 – toasting – eh, not very good in my opinion. I went to Walmart and got a toaster for less than $15 and it works VERY well and a LOT quicker than this. Option #2 – Bagel – I’ve never used it. I like to microwave mine with cream cheese on it so it’s not like a brick. Option #3 – Broil – Wonderful, Option #4 – Bake. – I rarely use my regular oven anymore unless the pan I’m using like a big standard cookie sheet or something like that, doesn’t fit. I baked two loaves of bread in it last night. Option #5 – Roast – works great ! Option #6 – Warm – temperature adjustable and works very well – Option #7 – Pizza – GREAT ! You can select frozen or not. Option #8 – Proof – yes, I’ve used it for proofing dough. GREAT job ! As long as I’m not baking 4 loaves of bread, then it would over flow. Option #9 – Airfry – *LOVE, LOVE, LOVE IT ! Talk about a useful feature. As well as cooking steaks, fries, etc., it heats up leftovers like they were fresh such as pizza, french fries, tacos ! I don’t have to chuck them out because we ALL know how the microwave treats them ! Option #10 – Reheat – another option to reheating your food as opposed to the microwave. Option #11 – Cookies – there’s so many options, this is the first time I’ve noticed that option. Laugh Out Loud ! I’ll have to try it. Option # 12 – Slow Cook – I can honestly say I haven’t tried it. I’ll have to give it a whirl sometime when I come across an enticing recipe to try it. And last but absolutely THE least Option #13 – Dehydrate – I hardly ever have bought dehydrated food items unless I was at an Amish (as an example – there are lots of other gift shops and grocery
stores who sell dehydrated food items that I’ve been to) gift shop and something somehow looked good to me. I buy it, take it home and rarely eat them. *HA* !!!! Now, to run my Breville Smart Oven for HOURS AND HOURS to dehydrate something ???? Safe to say, that’s an option that most probably will NEVER be used.
Now, this video was mostly about cleaning. I confess to say, this is the first YouTube of yours I’ve ever watched to obviously I never watched your first one. There’s another YouTuber who HATES the cleaning process of this device. He says the catcher tray on the bottom is impossible to get all clean. Honey, I’m am L-A-Z-Y !!!!!!! I never try to scrub the catch tray. I leave it in the sink in the hottest water I can get out of my faucet and let it soak in HOT, soapy water for at least an hour. Not to say that gets EVERYTHING off of it but the vast majority, yes, it gets it off. I don’t clean it as often as I should but when I do, it’s not difficult at all. Right now, it has a bunch of stuff on the front window on the inside. I had to remove some of it a week ago to see which level I needed to put the rack on in order to cook something so I took a straight edged razor blade with the gadget to put the blade in so you don’t cut yourself and very quickly scraped it off. It didn’t take the writing off because the writing is on the outside. Thank goodness.
Now, one feature I’m extremely interested in and I could probably just read the dang manual, is the “phase cook” feature. Have you ever tried that ? I’d love to see how that’s done. Maybe you could do a YouTube with that and some of your favorite things you use it for seeing you use it almost daily as I do. I always love to see others’ ideas.
One thing I did see a while back was “DO NOT put foil on top of the drip catch pan on the bottom as it could harm the cooking element.” Too bad. It would help with the cleaning although that was from Breville itself, I have seen other YouTubers do it anyway. I wonder how their units are doing after a long time of doing what Breville explicitly said not to.
If I use this device to the point it burns out, let me say this, I’ll be getting another. Wonder what the 3rd generation (to me) would have ! Thanks for the video. I’ll look for your first one and please consider a YouTube with what I requested above. Sorry this was so long. *grin*. ENJOY !!!!
I use the top of a toaster oven as a warmer for buns and rolls
How good is it in the broil and roast modes? Have you cooked steaks and whole chickens with it?
This huge toaster oven! Who would buy such a giant counter top toaster? LOL!☹️
I have the Breville oven without the air fry function model. Thinking about upgrading to Smart Air oven. How loud can the fan get in air fry mode? Does the fan turns on all the time when using different function such as baking, toasting bread, roasting and other functions. Recently bought the Bella Air fry Oven and the fan turns on every functions likes simply baking cookies, and it’s quite loud. Thanks
The Dollar store just added an amazing product it cleaned my oven so easily it a new improved vinegar streak free amazing cleaner. It is among there Awesome Cleaners. I was shocked what an excellent job this product did.
It’s an amazing find.
Thank you, what would you say are the benefits of having this versus using your standard oven to bake? I don’t air fry much but it seems that other bakers use these instead of big ovens……to me it seems that you’d have to bake smaller portions……do the pros outweigh the cons?
