There’s this 1 year old thread on Reddit about how several people were having massive issues with the GTX 1660 Ti and even one person saying that Solidworks does not support that card. Was this something you found in your simulations or research?

I upgraded my 2011 mid iMac’s ram 4 to 12, hard disk to ssd & gpu amd radeon 6750m to gtx 770m. I bootcamp’ed Windows 10 and now I can use solidworks. Yes I’m poor PC nerd.

  30. Leonardo Manfrin on April 28, 2021 at 3:37 am

Thanks for your video! Maybe you could save my life (and my money😅). Can you confirm me that laptops with integrated gpu like Xe graphics or the ones you said added to 16 GB of RAM and a i7 i5, ryzen 7 5 h series, are enough to run solidworks ?
Can you recommend these specs or is it better if I buy at least a gtx 1650 gpu?
Thank you in advance, I need to buy a new laptop within two days and fortunately found your video so I hope you will give me your opinion

  31. 88th Spell on April 28, 2021 at 3:38 am

Even my laptop is worse than the slowest laptop in this video. It can use solidworks but is having a very hard time with CFD simulation.
    $300
    Intel Pentium N4200
    Intel HD Graphics 505
    8 GB ram
    240 GB SSD

It sucks, but hey it helped me to finish mech engineering

  32. DAD on April 28, 2021 at 3:39 am

  33. Tammy Shaw on April 28, 2021 at 3:41 am

Currently looking for a computer to handle 3D modeling using autodesk and one that can handle viewing large point cloud data. Looking at either legion, predator, or aero series as I want one that has expandable memory. Any recommendations?

  34. EngineerM ConveyorMan on April 28, 2021 at 3:42 am

Hi, I can completely tune-up for all models of laptops to use SolidWorks from 2008 to 2021. After a tune-up, the framerate and performance of the general laptop will improve to equal workstation laptop. Please feel free to contact me. No need to use Quadro or FirePro/FireGL.

  35. Nikola Klisovic on April 28, 2021 at 3:47 am

Solidworks, Inventor… they are all single-threaded applications, so you´ll benefit from the processor with a higher base clock speed of a single core. These programs use GPU only for visualization, so which GPU you should use depends on how big your projects are, it depends on the number of parts in the assembly, and if you have enabled visual enhancements like shadows or edge lines(which in reality for CAD you don´t need to do it). my experience that every assembly with approx. 50 parts can be handled by integrated graphics, for more you’ll need a dedicated graphics card. As Ben said it, Quadro cards (recently Quadro designation discontinued) from Nvidia or Radeon Pro series are a long time now a standard for CAD Workstations which are also great for video editing. So if you´re looking for a laptop for CAD or video editing I would recommend Hp ZBook line, Dell Precision line, or Lenovo P line of workstations.
