Best laptops at CES 2019: if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it

CES 2019 was full of laptops, everything from GeForce RTX-equipped thin gaming laptops to AMD-powered Chromebooks to desktop replacements with swappable CPUs. A lot looked like last year’s bunch, but there were more than a few interesting exceptions. To cut through the deluge of announcements, we’ve rounded up what we think are the best laptops from CES so you can get a look at the tech that’s arriving this year.

Am I the only one hoping that the next trend/breakthrough will be everyone copying the surface book design philosophy? Stick all the internals in the screen, put a massive battery in the keyboard, and add an external GPU (in the keyboard also) for the high end models. When 13" tablets start weighing a pound or less, that will be the next logical step.

If you’re talking about processor updates why bother and wait for Intel? Intel are just crawling their way slowly with just concepts of 10Nm and whatnots. There’s the Ryzen processors. Problem is vendors are slow at adopting it or adopting it the wrong way by under-powering its power-supply. The 9th Generation are just the same previous architecture running at higher clockspeed. Nothing new there. Ryzen is new. Wake up vendors!

When are we getting 32gb ram in a ultraportable? All the manufactures max out at 16gb and that’s been the case for last 5 years.

  13. Just Me on February 6, 2021 at 9:10 pm

Do ANY of these have Bluetooth 5.0? If not, sad.

  21. Mr Ak on February 6, 2021 at 9:21 pm

Correct the title here, laptops with no upgrades.

  22. Frankie Cuellar on February 6, 2021 at 9:22 pm

there’s not a huge update, because there’s not much you can do with laptops anymore!?? lol with just like phones are you do is make it a better screen and a better camera? I mean what else you could do anymore now if you do anymore it’s going to like disappear into thin air!? Lol because how thin there getting every year? I mean if you were smart company just give him a little bit every year cuz they didn’t give him a big prize then you have nothing for next year?

  23. Pablo A on February 6, 2021 at 9:22 pm

While Intel continues having a monopoly, there will not be innovation. Intel already has the technology to design smaller, cheaper and more efficient chips, but you know, capitalism

  24. thisissooolegit on February 6, 2021 at 9:23 pm

The fact that you’re pronouncing “Asus” incorrectly freaking kills me.

  25. Hussein Horack on February 6, 2021 at 9:27 pm

Ok Verge, you can stop making videos now! Thanks!

  27. Piyush Sharma on February 6, 2021 at 9:27 pm

This video is good "BUT" not a different video

  28. J A on February 6, 2021 at 9:28 pm

Why would anyone expect a huge update. Perhaps you’re expecting a floating laptop, or one that opens the lid automatically. There is really only so much you can do. It’s not a problem, is it?

  29. Pedro Nuno on February 6, 2021 at 9:30 pm

what does he have on his head?

  33. Divyansh Raghuwanshi on February 6, 2021 at 9:31 pm

😂😂 after a minute whole video is so predictable.

  34. Sidney da Silva on February 6, 2021 at 9:33 pm

“It’s not a great update” summary of the video

  35. Steven Hambleton on February 6, 2021 at 9:36 pm

No opportunity for innovation yet most Windows laptop have tiny little trackpads. Why can’t they design a Macbook Pro size trackpad?

  36. Hus 9 on February 6, 2021 at 9:37 pm

All the components that need to be cooled are under the keyboard the only good laptop design is the Asus Mothership…

  38. José Miguel Fernandes on February 6, 2021 at 9:41 pm

go back to your mac then

  39. Eddie Stark on February 6, 2021 at 9:41 pm

I would have to say you are quite wrong regarding the Notebook 9 Pro. I7 8565 and 2 4 lane Thunderbolt 3 ports make it quite a big update to last years model that had no TB3 .

  40. Warner Brothers on February 6, 2021 at 9:42 pm

    Idiotic review of ‘no upgrades’

  41. Ondrej Glembek on February 6, 2021 at 9:42 pm

Again, no 3:2 screen 🙁 When do we get to see more screen instead of that ridiculous plastic bezel at the top and bottom?

  42. Fellar 031 on February 6, 2021 at 9:45 pm

hope dell xps implement 16:10 or 3:2 screen ration on their 13 or 15 with a screen that has capability more than 60hz such as 75, 90 or even 120hz. Also, might be good if they include one more usb either type c or type a. that would be a great improvement..

  43. Zoran on February 6, 2021 at 9:46 pm

For the XPS 13, the only problem was the camera so they moved it and now it’s close to perfect and the number one Ultrabook!

Stop saying that was a small change, it was a big and nessesary change!

  44. Chris Daniel on February 6, 2021 at 9:48 pm

How long to we see a RTX 2080 sli in a laptop??

Huge disagree on the CPU part. *There is innovation happening.*
AMD is releasing their Ryzen ZEn 2 CPUs for laptops soonish.
ARM will catch up sometimes in the future too, but AMD is really cornering the FPS per watt market. And it’s awesome for the lower prices !

  47. BlindMango on February 6, 2021 at 9:53 pm

I have never heard someone pronounce ASUS the way this guy does lol

  48. Jitten Blaze on February 6, 2021 at 9:53 pm

Nothing is big update for a apple lover

  49. Laurens De Clercq on February 6, 2021 at 9:54 pm

Why would you buy such a bulky gaming laptop ? I really don’t see why you wouldn’t buy a tower instead if you wanted a great gaming machine. They don’t really look portable anyway.

  50. Piher on February 6, 2021 at 9:54 pm

Which laptop do you suggest for 1000 eur/dollars?
