What is the best hard drive for storage or more specifically the best external hard drive for storage in 2020? Well, the best hard drive for video storage depends on your storage needs. These recommendations are based on the best hard drive mac users and best hard drive for pc users based on being the best hard drive for movie storage. More specifically the best budget hard drive that is used as the best hard drive for long term storage of film projects. This best hard drive for desktop and best hard drive for laptop use is not necessary the best hard drive for editing video because the speed isn’t anywhere near as fast as an external SSD, but the transfer speeds are still fast and make storage of video files and access to those files relatively quick. I don’t have a particular best hard drive brand preference so long as it’s the best hard drive external from your computer that works for filmmakers as well as the best hard drive for photographers. So far this is the best quality external hard drive that I have used and is the best external hard drive on Amazon that I have found (that is a non-RAID setup). I hope this Camber Motion tutorial on the best hard drive storage options have been helpful for you and help you determine what is the best hard drive for storage for you in 2020.

Great suggestion. I don’t know how much room my video files take up, but a lot less than yours. But planning ahead is good.
Wow Camber you videos are so awesome😉😊
I use an OWC Thunderbay4 in RAID5; 4x 14TB drives, giving my 42TB useable space. I have that drive attached to a MacMini server, which is hosted in a specialty MacMini data center. I have 18TB used so far.
Hi Camber! I was wondering what focal length do you use for your videos? I want to do a similar style but maybe slightly wider (waist up). Do you think a 15-45mm lense would work?
I did not even know they had 14 TB external hard drives. I have been using 4 TB Hard Drives.
Very new. Why don’t you use solid-state hard drives? I will be on a motorcycle with no home doing YouTube videos on the road. I am thinking a laptop with a solid-state drive would be important for me? I would think regular hard drives would take a beating? Also, a low voltage computer that can charge from my 12-volt bike system? This is not my area so don’t really know what I’m talking about. Suggestions appreciated!!
Thank you so much!! funny thing we were actually thinking what to buy heheheheh!!!! team Sunny 🙂
Succinct. Useful. Super. I’m shooting for side projects at work and so using shared cloud drives. Next step will be to invest in an external drive. This is a decent option.
I’ve actually been looking for advice on this very topic! Quite timely for me. Great video!
Very timely video! Between external and cloud storage I’m learning a lot. Gotta get better at taking care of my footage and material. Thank you!
Nice tips boss thank you so much
I just bought a new external hard drive last month. Great timing!
The quality of your video is great!
can i edit my photos on that hard drive ?
Hey Camber, Awesome video thanks for the explanation. I have a G-Technology 10TB G-DRIVE (Thunderbolt 3 & USB 3.1 Gen 1) that I keep all video files on and Final Cut projects on. Would I get faster speeds by editing only my Final Cut Projects on a Samsung SSD 860 EVO 1TB while keeping all video files on the 10TB G-DRIVE? or is it better to have all files and projects on the 10TB G-DRIVE and just edit off that?
Thanks,
Great video, very helpful information and explanation. I currently have about 12 TB of data, and somewhere in the neighborhood (I’ve lost count) of 30TB worth of drives (manual redundancy)
Thanks for the tips in choosing storage
I am trying to find a way to store home videos and pictures of my children to keep for long term. I read in one of your comments that all hard drives die eventually , so I was wondering what you would suggest I do to be able to store the home videos long term so my grandchildren would be able to access them in the FAR future?
This is fantastic! I’ve been looking for a new external hard drive for storage and your video really helped me out!
This video was very timely! I have no clue how much footage I have but I do need an external hard drive ASAP! Im a new film maker and my computer is complaining 🙂 thanks for sharing
I’ve learn something new! I always give people their work and delete the footage, I now need one. thank you Camber!
I definitely want to know more ways to store my files as I am producing a lot of videos for my channel🙂! Thanks for sharing!
wow that’s pretty good! 14TB is tons of space, pretty good price for it too! great recommendation!
This is very helpful, thank you!
Thanks for sharing
This is awesome!!! Thank you. I needed this especially after buying a bad 2T external drive.
I’ve been using thumb drives since every time I buy a large external like these they end up dying 🙁 ??
That’s a mean drive! My channel is less than a year old and I don’t have many vids yet but I can see down the line where I would need this. I currently have a basic 1 TB drive I use to organize my video content.
Here’s a list that helped me out.

In the end, I went with #7.

How much space 💽 is your footage taking up??? 🎥 🎞
I needed this! Thanks 🙂
Is it noisy?
I just shout out your channel on my community ❤️
So, something I’ve been wondering, is why should I even be saving my old videos? They’re already uploaded and I’m done with them. Do you recycle b-roll? Is saving it worth my time? Thanks!
Yeah, all the RAID approach stuff makes my head hurt. I"m pretty OCD and double triple back up as it is. (and fairly "poor" so…there’s that.) 🙂
This is what I needed! I have such small space on the laptop I use.
I will prolly start with the ‘cheaper’ version – but this video reminds me I need an external drive asap.
Very good ! I’m looking into this right now
