I can still use my 3-year old laptop for my work, even for my games. I don’t think I’ll be needing this new iteration of iMacs
How important are inbuilt cameras and speakers? Personally I use Bose headphones or a bluetooth sound system and connect and also a seperate camera for webcam. My focus is on processing. Curious to know how many would be impacted by webcam and speakers. My considerations are am I better with a MacBook and have a monitor for a home desk set up or look for higher end processing with an iMac and loose and portability.
im trying to suss out how to add a second screen to my imac 2020 but both vga and DVi adapters do not seem to work,,,,the second screen come son and off for 3secs

I’m a university student and I’ve an IPad Pro 2020 with magic keyboard for my studies (which I loveeeeee) however as college has moved online this year IPADOS won’t run certain university systems or programs that I need to complete so I wanna invest in a Mac but I’m torn between IMac or MacBook Pro. I feel like many people lean towards MacBook for the portability but I already have that in my IPad Pro any advice from anyone 😊

Nice comparison but if I buy either the 16" MBP or iMac I am going to spend closer to $4,000 on each machine in order to get the faster MP (at least in the MBP), 2 TB SDD and in the case of the MBP, 64 gigs of Ram. I’ll buy RAM for the iMac online.
Because we pay a premium for miniaturization and portability, I don’t think you can do a straight dollars for dollars comparison. I expect the MBP to cost 1/3 more so I think your comparison would have made more sense if you had selected the 8 core MP in the MBP as opposed to going for the lower performing one which while resulting in nearly even dollars spent, doesn’t reflect the idea that you have to spend more on the portable computer in the first place so you should spec a more expensive model with its higher level of performance.

For what it’s worth, with 128-gigs of RAM I got a single-core score of 1393 and a multi-core score of 9058 in Geekbench 5 on my first run (same iMac).

Hesitating now, for gaming is an i9 5500M MacBook Pro 16 great? I love the MacBook Pro’s portability, Touch Bar & Touch ID, Trackpad etc and I like to take it on my bed for example
It’s so nice that my iMac 5K 2020 Big Sur shares "Screen Sharing" with my MacBook Pro 17" 2009 El Capitan by Wi-Fi or Ethernet connection. I can work both MacOS with the old and new apps on iMac 5k 27" BIG desktops even though some apps only work for old computers. It works well when I setup the connection correctly for both Macs.
I bought a decently powerful 2019 imac and I’m starting to wonder whether I should have gotten a MacBook pro 16 instead….
