Chrono Trigger is def a 10/10 and probably my favorite RPG of all time.
For me, the 10/10 RPGs are Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition, Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light, Fire Emblem Three Houses, Seiken Densetsu 3, Dragon Quest 3, 4, 8, 9 and 11 and Final Fantasy 2, 6, 7, 10, 13, and 14, I know it’s a lot of games that I think are 10/10 but these games helped me out through tough times and also the nostalgia always gets me and I just love these games to death 😁
The way you introduced DQIV reminded me of Octopath but way better.
I’m surprised chrono trigger wasn’t on here lol. That for me is The 10/10. I know it’s considered one of the greats, but I didn’t play it until I had my psp (and played a Rom….). So I’m coming at this Ge after I moved beyond the snes. But wow. The court scene at the beginning? Mind blowing, and then the multiple time lines. Seeing robo come back in the future after guarding the forest for centuries… My absolute top of the pile.
Fallout New Vegas
FF9
FF7 remake
Links Awakening DX
Skies of Arcadia
Grandia 2
Panzer Dragoon Saga
Shenmue
suikoden 2 was a 10/10
Xenogears, and Wild Arms for some reason
Don’t know if they are worth 10/10 but both Vagrant Story and Kingdom Come:Deliverance are excellent.
Morrowind you NWAH
Even my favorite games of all time don’t deserve 10 out of 10 in my mind.
I am a harsh critic.
Instasub for the Roy Focker jacket.
Pokemon Gold/Silver is a 10/10 RPG.
Final Fantasy X
Final Fantasy VII
Star Ocean 3 Till the End of Time
Ogre Battle 64: Person of Lordly Caliber was great
Agree with final fantasy 4 & 6 both 10/10
I thought you would’ve picked Ni No Kuni, especially for that Wizards Companion you keep on your shelf } :
Listening to johnny talk about games goes hand and hand like butter on biscuits with jelly lmao
Chrono Trigger, FF7, FFX
Persona 4, 5 and Final Fantasy VII and IX are my favorites. Dragon Quest games are also great, I love VIII and XI.
hearing the beautiful Ys VIII music in the beginning I thought Ys VIII would have been here.
That said, Phantasy Star is the greatest game of all time
Period
Some RPGs I really enjoyed besides the ones you listed were Azure Dreams for the PS1 and Skies of Arcadia for the Dreamcast. They were excellent.
Love the content! I wish we would see more great ps1 Era rpgs ported to switch, legend of the dragoon and crono cross are just a couple that come to mind
For me, I love xenosaga and eternal sonata, even if I play a lot of JRPGs those will always be the games that I go back and play from time to time.
10/10 – i will add to the list FFVI, FFIX & DQV ^__^’
I would put Final Fantasy VI as the one that definitely got me into gaming, tho i had played on the NES before that. The music, the characters, the very dramatic story…. Terra is still,to this day,the girl i resonate with most.
Phantasy Star? I never heard him talk about that game, what is that?
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic
persona 3 and ni no kuni 1 are some of my favs
Dragon Quest XI
Skies of Arcadia!!
2 games I’ll mention: Eye of the Beholder, and Final Fantasy 9
Tales of Symphonia is a 10 out of 10 for me.
You nailed it with Suikoden. I remember flying through that game because of the pacing, which had a lot to do with the engaging combat and intricate story.
some of my 10/10 JRPG are Persona 3 4 and 5 almost all of the Trails games espeaclly Sky SC (fuckin master piece of a JRPG) Ys8 SMT 4 and FF7
Xenogears: Despite the content reduction in disc 2, it still have extraordinary storytelling. The soundtrack is awesome too.
Chrono Cross: Great story telling, unique combat mechanics and awesome soundtrack.
I just watch this channel because I like to hear Johnny talk about retro and new games but especially the classics. The name Happy Console Gamer seems very fitting. This channel is relaxing for me to watch.
Honestly the amount of hours I put into Phantasy Star Online is depressing. I didn’t even have online play access 😕 I grinded offline for hours, and hours, and hours.
Grandia was a disappointment for me
no chrono cross , legend of mana , the legend of dragoons or baten kaitos 1 or baten kaitos origins man ???
Lunar 1 and 2 either versions all the way
I like how Octopath Traveller tried to do what Dragon Quest 4 did but failed miserably. What a waste of time that game was. You play the neat stories, which include your party members in battle but somehow don’t feature any of them in cutscenes, and then nothing happens. They come together for the stupidest quest and then the game ends. So disappointing.
I remember being a young teen when mario kart double dash came out, there was a demo in the store, i ran so fast to it that I badly knocked a child down onto the floor……………………….and I stil only cared about the demo XDD felt so guilty but it was like a parallel universe of fun and color and adventure back then playing it in the shop, things like that feel so much bigger as a kid, but anyway to that kid, sorry i knocked you over.
There was internet in 1997 actually just wasn’t common but it was there Netscape rules with an iron fist before explorer
As far as as the NES Final Fantasies go, FFIII>FFI
My personal aditions to the list:
– Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura
– Fallout: New Vegas
– Bravely Default
– Golden Sun series
– Shadowrun Returns and all it’s Stand-Alone games
– Chronno Trigger
– Radiant Historia
What’s that cool tune at the beginning? ..I want whatever game that belongs to asap!! 😛
Shin Megami Tensei III Nocturne and Shin Megami Tensei IV. They’re legitimately perfect, there’s no series that scratches that grimdark JRPG itch the way SMT does. They’re all pretty goddamn good honestly.
Shining the Holy Ark on the Saturn.
Skies of Arcadia and Grandia 2 on the Dreamcast.

Bro you can’t talk about 10/10 RPG’s without mentioning Chrono Trigger.
